Character limit in signatures

Just wanted to say that I think the character limit in signatures is TOO limiting.
I can barely fit in 3 lines of text for hyperlinks, and I can't even put in enough text for a little description, even though I set the font to a small size so it won't bother others who have sigs activated.
So what I want to suggest is either a higher character limit or better yet, a size limit. Like, pics not bigger than x pixels or x lines of text only.

yeah I find that annoying too. I want to link to the video I already have and use a pic for my sig, but the urls always take up too much space.

Well 255 is kind low, but most places I have seen are 225 & your avatars have to be either 40x40 or 100x100. So at least we have the ability to go a little larger on Avatar. As for a pre-set image. Someone could still have say a 200x400 file for a signature. Just that if they was rude & made it a bitmap, the darn thing would be huge ! Not everyone is on Cable Internet, like me :( Sadly I live out in the woods, so all I have is DSL @ 3Mbps DX

Hmm too bad. It was worth a try, I guess. Still, a higher character limit shouldn't be the problem, just a general size limit right?

Yeah, this has been brought up by me and a few others too. I don't believe Jacob has any intention of increasing the character limit in fear of people using it as a reason to have outlandishly huge signatures. Just use TinyURL or the .TK services.

People use outlandishly huge signatures anyway, in the form of large images. I have to keep telling them to change it.

The size of your picture now is perfectly fine.
Seeing 700x700, for every post a poster makes with a picture that big, would cause longer load times and more scrolling.

Yeah, but more characters give people access to have more and bigger pictures.

I'd like to see people's photoshop skills and what they can do with their signature but the outrageously huge pictures and youtube videos and multiple pictures forced me to turn them off in my profile. I'd really like to see a pixel dimension limit for signatures then people will have to put some thought into what they throw in there. And they need to bring back disable emoticons in your post because I hate those fucking things.

I don't think so. At least the "bigger pictures" part, since that has NOTHING to do with the character limit IMO.
One could argue about the "more pictures" part, but how many users will put like 20 pics in their sig without spoilering it?
