Entering a new topic
0
When entering a topic you have never read, wouldn't it make more sense for it to go to the first page rather than the last? I can't imagine it being that hard to implement, adding a variable that is assigned false by default and true once you have entered a topic for the first time should do the trick.

How about navigating to the first page with an unread post? So when entering a new topic you'd go to the first page and if you've been there it'd go to the page of the first unread post.
Probably more complicated than I am making it out to be.

I had no idea what FPOD said...
I'm thinking that you're clicking the little thing next to the thread you haven't read. It's a little square/rectangle. Just click the topic.
Does that help?

I'm not an idiot :|
I know what it is supposed to do, but it takes me to the final page if I have or have not read the thread yet.
I support fpod's thought of the first unread page, that would be slightly harder to implement but still doable, I believe.

In a simple way
A topic has 3 pages and you have never read the topic before. Clicking the topic would take you to the first page (first unread post is the Original post). If you've been to the thread before it would take you to the first unread post since you last visited the thread. So if a discussion stopped at page 2 but, later someone bumps or just adds on when you visit the thread again it would take you to where the thread started up again.

As opposed to what it actually does, which is take you to the latest page.

It takes you to the first page if you click it through the topic listing, but if you click it from the forum index it will send you to the last post, as that is what it's supposed to do as the forum index shows "last post"...
Don't really get the problem?

I was suggesting that it not take you to the last post, but rather the last you've read when you click on a thread from either the topic overview or forum overview rather than the last page. Maybe make it an option that is allowed in the user options? I just get annoyed when, say, I click on a thread in the "latest posts" area, and it takes me to page 6 of a thread I've never seen before, so I go thinking the top post was OP, and such.

Well, you're ARE clicking LATEST posts, so it only seems right for it to take you there."Latest posts" -> I believe that should be subjective to users. As in "Latest post you've seen".

Well, I guess I'm failing to understand this. I click the thread title, I end up on the first page. I click on the "mini-page" icon, and I end up on the latest unread post. I don't know what's hapenin' with yours.

Topic overview topic link; first page.
Forum overview; last page.

I see, well that's far clearer, forums.php is meant to take you to the last post, as it's called "last post" as for view new posts, maybe we can work something out to have it be subjective to user...
Would that be ok? I think Jacob would dislike changing the way the forum index works...

I get what TMS is asking for... but that would be pretty complicated to implement, code-wise I believe.

Yeah, user subjective would be great. Thanks for even considering it <3
