Can we haz it?
A lot of people will have a lot of free time since christmas break from university will start soon. Plus, it is the bastard child of mote mote in many ways - might as well do it before MoteMote (presumably) starts in the future. I've condensed most of my post into bite sized arguments supporting Garfest below:
There, all the reason to start Garfest and start it soon.

The only thing that would need to be done on the server end is to create a "Garfest 2010" forum and assign the appropriate moderator rights, correct? If so, I'll run it by Jacob.
I kind of think it would be interesting to have a separate dedicated interface for it (rather than just using the forum software to handle it), but don't have the time to design+implement one ;_;

That's what she said.
EDIT: GOD I HAVE BEEN POSTING IN IB TOO MUCH I AM SORRY. It's just making the forum, right?

Ah, and yet I laughed...
I don't know about that... I know that there has to be sticky post made and taken down every day or so in order for people know what round is going on. Also, someone has to be in charge of nominations and just the tournament in general.
^If no one objects, I could do the whole organizational thingy. But as for sticky(ing?) that day or days' round, I don't know if there needs to be moderation powers dealt or how that would work.

-Yes it is just a forum
-But someone needs to be in charge[/h]

I think we'd just give whoever's in charge of organizing it mod powers in the Garfest forum. They could then sticky whatever threads needed to be made and stuff. Preferably a college student who is home over winter break with nothing to do.
Looks like Jacob's asleep right now, so it'll have to wait until later tonight at the earliest.
DULY NOTED SIR
Anyway I don't make decisions I just break stuff. When Jacob wakes up he'll figure out who should be in charge and we'll set everything up and stuff.

Sounds like the best way to do it. I am up to the task so feel free to name drop. Neko-chan with a hyphen in it. It was invented by TMS though so I don't want to step on any toes here.

I thought you'd say that so that's what I did.

What's garfest? It's basically an event like MoteMote where we choose a bunch of GAR characters and spend a couple weeks internet screaming about how GAR they are and then vote on them in a single-elimination bracket until we've decided on a single most GAR character.
More or less a good excuse to post an avalanche of GAR porn.
I mentioned it to Jacob and he made some good points; assuming nothing goes terribly wrong we'll have it up in a week or so or something (want to make sure we get all the kinks worked out of the new TWINCEST server setup before starting anything important).

TMS was left to run it but didn't have time, perhaps if you request it from him? It's not run by Fakku staff as far as I know. From what i know Jacob didn't want to take it from him though so unless his feelings have changed you may not seen a round 2 of the game for a while.

I understand that, and I already said I don't want to step on any toes. That said, TMS doesn't have copyrights on GARfest and if he did we could just rename what is basically a character battle - the same character battles that every other geek and otaku culture themed website does at some point. Whether or not he is ready or willing to participate in another GARfest is something that as friends and fellow fakku(ians) we take into consideration.
However, his procrastination to start and new year of GARfest and lack of updates during the last year's GARfest are examples of why this year's edition (which will actually be 2011's by the time it is done) should start with or without him.
Anyway, I'd be surprised if he didn't drop by into this thread and say something sometime soon.

As I said the last time I talked about it with Jake he had no intention of taking it from TMS.

It would be much longer than over winter break, and I don't think you realise how much work it actually is. When I first created the game, I thought it would be easy. But no, it's actually one of the most time consuming things I've ever done. That said, I would be up to return to creating it, being as I am basically done with school until next fall.

Again, I may create the game again if there is enough community want for it. Perhaps a poll?

Then do it son, don't get all sad and whiny. I said I would do it because I would and I have the time too. And to suggest that I am just trying to steal the idea right out from under you nose it absurd as I post that I'm sure you'd stop by to say something - although I thought you wouldn't be so offended by someone bringing it up. Did I really have to PM you about something people have been asking about for a while? Especially when you seemed oh so not very eager to do GARfest for the majority of the year.
Perhaps when you heard "moderator powers" you became interested again?
Either way, don't be upset at me for bringing up something you wouldn't have brought up yourself. And no, you don't own the idea of GARfest. GARfest is the creation of Jim Davis where fans celebrate the antics of his newspaper comic character "Garfield".
TL;DR
-Don't cry
-Poll is stupid
-Your welcome

Ah, sorry about that. Had no idea about the history of it -- it sounded like a fuckton of work (moderation is a nightmare to begin with -- and maintaining special threads and all kinds of stuff on top only frustrates the problem). Didn't realize I was hitting a weak spot with my sarcasm :(
That aside, Jacob wants to wait until we're sure the servers are 100% (one of them fucked up over the weekend -- firewall state table filled up and brought the machine down). I think I've got all the kinks worked out, but want to wait another week just to make sure nothing critical is going to break while we have an event going on. Kind of hard to predict what might fail in a live, high-traffic environment, unfortunately :(

Again, I may create the game again if there is enough community want for it. Perhaps a poll? I can't speak for him, but I'm pretty sure Jacob won't have a problem with that. How did it work before? Was it you + global moderators, you + small team, or just you? If the last, it might be prudent to spread the load across a couple other people so you don't get bogged down to the point where it's not enjoyable for you.
Anyway, I don't make decisions -- I'm just the grease on the wheels -- but my appreciation for the hard work you guys do is beyond measure, and I want to make sure you guys have both the tools you need and the good times you deserve.
EDIT:
Also, I don't know if a plain forum is necessarily the best medium to host these events. I'm not very familiar with the format, but if design (e.g., MS Paint me some images) the interfaces for what you'd like the area to look like, I can implement it.

I wasn't sad and whiny, I was pissed. You mad. I wasn't offended you brought it up. Yes. I was busy, see previous post.
Nope.
Of course I wouldn't bring it up, I thought it was over when I couldn't keep deadlines due to supporting my family when my father lost his job. You're a faggot, there's a difference between Garfest and GARfest.

No worries mate, you did no wrong, I didn't even realise it was sarcasm.
The previous game it was just me, and I pestered waar every time I needed something stickied. It worked fine enough. It's honestly easy enough for me to do by myself, just a little time consuming, and me having to work as previously mentioned drained most of my time earlier in the year.
