If it was a month and a half - it took much longer specifically because it was only one person doing the event. A dedicated moderator would be able to assist TMS and what not, or if TMS had moderation powers he wouldn't have to act like a 6 year old asking his mom to turn on the oven for him. HE COULD BAKE THAT SHIT HIMSELF.don't get me wrong, I understand the reason to have one, I'm simply telling you Jake said no last time.

Well, I can't fix the moderation bits (post deletions and rule enforcement), but I can definitely automate the sticky/unsticky process so that it automatically makes the daily battle threads, sticky/unstickys them, keeps track of the developing bracket and updates a central status post, generates bracket images, etc. I don't know what proportion of the overhead that would eliminate for you guys, but it would at least remove the "oh god need to stay up to put the thread up at the right time" factor. The fancy landing page is really just icing on the cake. The real timesaver is the automated system which takes care of the bruntwork for you guys.
Yeah that sounds like a lot of work eliminated as well as the problem of last year when people would complain or wonder if TMS was dead since there were no updates. With this automation, no one would care if he was dead.
Well, I think he'd still be necessary for keeping the discussion and stuff in-track. The moderators have enough work as-is reading through and policing all the other forums. That aside, I think the report system is enough to manage the post-related issues.

Well, to be fair it wouldn't actually get rid of the hardest part; that is, creating the header images for each battle. That was what took the longest, and under this system I'd still have to do it. I like the idea, but I'm just being realistic. It wouldn't be possible to automate a system that could take 2 random images, center them perfectly to the way that looks good and create with no manual interaction.I have a couple of ideas, but auto-gen'd art is never going to look as good as hand-created stuff, unfortunately. That's just overhead that I think we're gonna have to sit with for awhile -- it would take more than a week to write a system which takes two pools of images, finds ones that have similar/contrasting color palettes and outline schemes, finds the rough centershs of the depicted characters and works them together.
THAT WOULD BE A COOL SIDEPROJECT THOUGH.

On the mod topic; the only problem I could see arising by having someone other than the main creator/do-er of the game is a problem that came up last year; when something needed done but no mods were around.Hrm, other than putting up the polls and maintaining the stickies, what other time-critical tasks were there? I'm not familiar enough with the game :<

RSS feed.Oh shit, that's a good idea.
EDIT: Anyway, I think I'm gonna call it a night. I'm gonna brew on all this and run it by Jacob tomorrow to see what he thinks about it. In any case, we have to wait a week before doing anything to make sure the servers aren't going to keep pooping themselves while we're running an event (because that would be shitty, pun intended).

time critical? the only thing i remember other than stickied topics was mod stuff, like removing drama/threads which broke rules (no attack threads/images).

Also, putting up to date Standings of characters in their respective brackets. Just announcing the new round before it starts instead of when it is half way done would also be good.
These were things that TMS understandably would have trouble doing manually and by himself. Unpantsu presumably wants to know things like this though so he can consider making them auto-functions.

if you read what upantsu was quoting it was a quote tms made about mod tasks, so i dont think thats the case here.
