How about a "block user" button?
0
Just like Youtube for example, in this case it could be in the right under the "report" button. Just wondering if it would be a bad idea or not. Let's say someone annoys you, like for example lololol12's caps lock cruise control posts right? You'd block him, and in the forums it'll be like squelching him. His posts will be there, but you won't see what they contain. That user also won't be able to send you pm's.
Sounds good? Bad? "This idea was already suggested and rejected?"

That sounds like a good idea to me. Trolls want attention from the people who give it to him, you take that away and he won't have any fun.

Could be good but it could also get rather confusing when people respond to them, or whatever...unless they quote XD..but yea.
Also sounds like it could be beneficial, I suppose.

Hmmm I dunno. What if for example you block lollollol12, and in some thread he posts something. That's alright, you can't see it, it doesn't bother you. But if someone makes a response to his post or quotes him, you'd end up seeing what his post, or would have to go unblock him to see what the response refered to.
In other words, I'm not too sure if this would work out well. Also, you must know how to ignore such posts.

Exactly Klown. Think of this as filtering out the posts you don't wanna see on the forums. It's kind of like the ads you see on websites, sure you can "pretend they not there and ignore them" or block them and filter em out of the page once and for all. For those of you who use the add on "adblockplus" you know what I mean.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...
The Nixonator
You need:
1. Firefox
2. the My Image Here extension
3. a fitting image of Richard Milhous NIXON
What you do:
1. You right-click on the avatar of a hated user, and tell My Image Here to permanently replace it with NIXON.
2. You henceforth skip all posts with a NIXON next to them and just scroll past them.
3. (optional) you amuse yourself by laughing at NIXON drunkenly ranting about dumb, trivial bullshit.
The result:
Speaks for itself
The experience:
Pure bliss, I tells ya. I've been using this vigorously ever since I discovered that extension, and it worksâ„¢. No more tears.

This is a terrible idea. If everyone is ignoring people then they won't be reporting them which will not discourage others from making spam posts. Secondly even if 99% of what a given person says is crap you'll still miss out on the one good thing they have to say or at least have a hard time following the conversation of a thread with them involved in it. Since people quote other people a lot this still won't prevent you from seeing what they said. Also I feel that the idea kinda goes against the spirit of things here at Fakku, since you would be effectively deciding that someone will never have anything good to say. This will just increase the feeling of and possibly actually produce the mythical elitism that some users feel is a threat.

I don't agree. Not only would it cause confusion when someone quotes and replies to those idividuals' topics, it could inadvertently encourage spamming because there would be fewer and fewer people who would be willing to report people for their actions.

Yhat also seems like it'd be a whole lot of extra coding for Jacob who is very busy as it is. Give the guy some rest and learn not let the little shit bother you so much. It may be annoying to you but I've seen much worse.

The admin seem to neutered when it comes to handling trolls. Reporting them won't do anything if nobody with authority will seriously do anything about the problem. Hell, Lolol-whatever was only banned because he went too far. That basically set a "guide" for troll behavior. You can be an asshole, racist, sexist, douche bag so long as you don't go quite that far. If he had toned it down a little bit then he would have stayed regardless of the fact that he was harassing users and generally being a douche.
At least ignoring them will get them out of sight and out of mind but, the problem of people quoting them thus being able to see what they posted in the first place still lingers. It's a good idea but, not one that can be implemented effectively.
I think the whole topic is a general statement of "The trolls are a problem, do something about it!"

I know Jacob's busy especially now since he's going to some conventions and all. This is just an idea that I'm throwing out there for people who simply just wanna ignore someone's posts and see how many people agree/disagree with this idea.

Yeah I think it is a useless addition when ignoring them works just as well when you see "said user you don't like" just don't read their post that’s what I do to the one user I ignore.
Just seems like a lot of work for the admids that can be done by each user individually.

I'm gonna have to also disagree on this idea, rather than blocking the user from seeing any of his posts or receiving any of his pm's you could just ignore the guy, plus using the report button for a thread that's trolling or something else works fine as well.
0
Exactly, just don't read post that you don't want to. And as far as harassment and trolls, well that is why lololol2 was banned. Just cause you block someone who is bothering you doesn't mean that they will stop posting. Besides, most of the users here are mature enough about posting that the only time people will get blocked is when someone wants to block someone else who disagrees with them on a topic.

I thought about this idea a long time ago. But a single moment of thoughtlessness or posting while having a bad day, and suddenly a lot of people stop responding to you. So I'm against it. Some people may act like idiots sometimes, but sometimes they say things which will restore your respect for them. I highly doubt that a person who "blocks" a user will ever consider removing the "block".

Ramsus has said my own opinion on this matter. Let alone him, when I read the thread title, I was like, "Wut, are you serious?"
Either way, it's an idea that has quite some flaws and it does go against the spirit of FAKKU!.
@FPOD: well, it is being worked on hopefully by Nikon and the others. Then again, I haven't seen a bad case of trolling since Chuu! and his many incarnations before lollollol12.

Then again, I haven't seen a bad case of trolling since Chuu! and his many incarnations before lollollol12.From my perspective, the admins have taken far too long to address the problem of trolls and other trouble makers. The community as a whole seems to encourage this behavior. This leaves maybe, a couple dozen members out of all registered member to even bother reporting anything which may or may not have any action taken. So I would prefer to just outright block these people so I don't see their posts or threads instead of having to make a conscious effort to "avoid" them.
While I applaud Nikon and others for taking some action it'll take more than a polite request to make a change in this community.
