How about a "block user" button?

@FPOD: well, it is being worked on hopefully by Nikon and the others. Then again, I haven't seen a bad case of trolling since Chuu! and his many incarnations before lollollol12.From my perspective, the admins have taken far too long to address the problem of trolls and other trouble makers. The community as a whole seems to encourage this behavior. This leaves maybe, a couple dozen members out of all registered member to even bother reporting anything which may or may not have any action taken. So I would prefer to just outright block these people so I don't see their posts or threads instead of having to make a conscious effort to "avoid" them.
While I applaud Nikon and others for taking some action it'll take more than a polite request to make a change in this community.
Well we're starting to crack down on these things a bit more so I do report such things if they ever occur, but generally sometimes we let it go on for the lulz. We're not trying to encourage trolling, but there are times where we will just look the other way and blocking the user might not let you see the thread/posts of that user but in reality it will be there and others will see it.

If something like "It was funny" counts as a valid reason to let somebody break the rules then we shouldn't even have the damn things in the first place.

I know there are rules but I don't see us having to be serious all the time. We can let things slide every once in a while, but I just don't see the point in using such a button.

Agreed. A hard crackdown is absolutely not what this site needs right now. That's why I'm worried about what Nikon and others are doing with Random. Its just one more step to being too strict on Fakku. This place is a fun place to be because we don't have strict rules and moderators. I mean if I want that I'll go to one of the other countless sites that hold their members hands, and tell them how to speak to others. I like it here because it is up to me on how to act.

I want this place to be just as fun as it is but, flaming, harassing other users and generally being a douche shouldn't be a part of "the fun" of the community. You want that sort of community 4chan is right here.. Fakku isn't 4chan, so lets stop trying to make it such.
For the sake of argument: I would like to hear a "reason" as to why flaming and such negative behaviors actually benefit the community as a whole.

That's fine. I'm talking about this idea of what is a quality post? I don't think we need to be defining what is a quality post and what is not. That has me worried. I mean who is to say that one person's definition of a quality post is the same as another? We start going down that path I don't even want to imagine.

We aren't trying to judge "quality of post". To be completely honest I don't even recall that ever being mentioned. I guess maybe you are referring to the "debate" as to what kind of post or topic qualities for Random or I.B. Which really isn't that difficult.
If the topic is serious and you want a lengthy serious discussion then it goes in S.D. (Religion, Politics, etc)
If you want serious replies but, the topic isn't very series. Tattoo topics,
If you don't care about the replies and even care about what people reply with then this is where it would go. Memes, video topics and the like would go here. This is about as close to 4chan Fakku will ever get.
yet, some people can't seem to grasp the concept that Random ≠I.B.
This is about the only thing I can think of when people talk about "Quality of posts"

Well I guess there isn't a good reason, flaming other users and doing w/e else that is negative shouldn't be allowed here on the forums. But I think it's fine unless it gets way out of hand like a post flaming someone for the lulz versus someone making a whole thread about flaming someone.

Enough talk about quality of posts and topics about flamming please...seriously...
This is about suggesting a one button fix to someone you don't like and you don't want to be annoyed by him/her without troubling the mods. A simple "out of sight, out of mind" kind of thing.

Makes perfect sense...

Random thoughts:
- What truly speaks against this feature is the effort it would take to implement, especially seeing how people could just mentally ignore each other.
- I don't have any ethical qualms with ignoring people.
- I don't have a problem with people never having the chance to redeem themselves once you ignore them either.
- Lastly, I personally don't mind trolls so much as long as they're genuinely funny (admittedly rarely the case).

Well I wouldn't worry about trying to make it easier for the mods because it's there job so with there new found power comes alot more work and responsibilities.

Well put. Especially the part about trolls. I like the idea of simply ignoring the people I deem too stupid to waste my time on. A lot of older members will remember Chuu and his various other forms and by simply hitting "ignore" then I wouldn't be bothered with his posts for the rest of my time on Fakku. I see no down side to how I would use this system but, as others have pointed out the system is flawed in several ways that will ultimately bring it downfall and these are not flaws that can be tweaked or tinkered away from the core entity.
Edit; everybody likes a good troll to stir things up. Especially, when they are funny but, we don't have any of those trolls here.

I mean this whole thing about the quality of your individual posts. Like this "I agree." nonsense. Sometimes you want to post and you don't have a damn detailed, analytical, approach to what you say. I know it isn't going that far, but I feel like it eventually could.
I fail to see what's wrong. Most people are having fun, and the handful of people who are grumpy about this could just as easily ignore it. Maybe I'm just not seeing the big picture, but it seems like a clear minority who are complaining about this.

The elders and by that I mean the people who have been active members since before Rukia92 got hitched. We've seen the community go downhill and we would really prefer that we stop the trend before it gets much worse. In other words, we don't want Fakku becoming another 4chan.
The mods and admin will never get too iron fist here so I don't see what you are worrying about. Though, I can understand your concern since you haven't been here as long as the ones complaining about the problem but, as you spend more time here you'll meet some really awesome people. Hell, I'm living with someone I met here on Fakku.

I've seen several other forums that had a "block user" feature. It's really nothing new. I have to wonder if it's not a basic feature on those "make your own forum" sites. Just saying.
Also, sometimes, it's hard to ignore a person's post. Even if you know you won't like what the person has said, you still might look at it and be upset. And though you can say that everybody should have the willpower to ignore stupid people and posts, if we go with that, then no posts should ever be deleted, because even if it offends someone, that person can just ignore it.
In the end, does Fakku need a "block user" feature? Not at this time. Would it be beneficial? Perhaps. I certainly don't think it would cause a lot of damage. If Person A makes a bad post that ought to be reported, chances are, it's going to be seen by someone that has not blocked Person A. Furthermore, I think users would only block other users to avoid trouble and thus eliminate some of the shitty posts. To use a (somewhat) real example, Angelus would perhaps block waar so he (Angelus) wouldn't have a chance to get riled up by one of waar's comments. This would possibly keep a thread from turning into a dramafest and having to be locked.

I honestly don't think this is really necessary. But like all things, if the community wants it I will gladly do it.

Well...I think it'd be easier to have a "shrink button." Sorta like the Spoiler button only it applies to the whole post and all you could see is the name/rank/status/ect. There'd be one on each post and you could choose to shrink all of the chosen user's posts and since it'd work like a spoiler button, if you really wanted/needed to read one of their posts, you could just un-shrink it with the button.
That solves the "confusion" problem IMO.
You specifically block one post of someone whose been beating your head into the wall with stuff you've already disagreed with.
The quoting this is still a problem though...

Simply ignore their posts manually rather than asking a computer to do it for you, you lazy fucks.

I'm half and half on this. On one hand, I do get tired of seeing the same people troll time after time and being able to get away with it because they're either chummy on the irc where all the elders lurk or because they're 'funny'.
It's irritating when a system is set in place but isn't used correctly, and used only some times.
Granted, Nikon and Gambler have shown great interest in trying to make Fakku better with the quality of posts and the behavior of people. Unfortunately, some people just flat out have behavioral issues.
But, this new 'system' of the "Block User" button will seriously annoy the fuck out of me when I start to see every other post 'well if you don't like it, block me' or when someone is breaking a rule 'well, why don't you block them and just ignore them'
That's not fixing the problem, it's throwing a blanket over the problem and calling it fixed.
This website is getting way too clique with people, and in the end the rules are subjective and not universal. It comes down to how funny the trolling can be and who you became friends with.
Sorry kids, I'm not in high school anymore.
