Took ADSin's advice and decided to create a separate thread about this instead of hijacking the Special Interests thread. Instead of creating sub-forums how about implementing a blog feature where people can just feel free to talk about anything that may not have any specific place or meaning on the forum?
It wouldn't be terribly hard to do, and it would be easier to just read the blogs of members who are your friends or whatever and share ideas through the blog rather than wading through sub-forums of similar material.

It would be a great feature, I think, and can think of some cool things to expand it a bit...
For example in the top menu bar we can have a "Blogs" drop down, with recent blog entries globally, global categories, tags, etc..you know..just really build it into the site. Of course there would still be an individual page for each member with their own categories & tags, but the global side of it would be to like..connect all the fakku blogs.
It'd be fun, I know I'd use it a lot :P

I'd might use it... but I'm not too sure if the site should be overburdened with more functions than it already has.
I kinda like the Special Interests forum.

I was a member of a forum in the past that allowed each user to keep a personal "journal," where they could post whatever. That forum was a bit different from Fakku though, since you had a friends list and could make certain journal entries "friends only."
I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of blogs on Fakku. I kind of like the idea of having a little blog that some of you guys could read, but at the same time, I know that there are a ton of sites where people can keep blogs. MySpace, Facebook, all the other social networking sites, and of course, blogs themselves exist for that purpose. People on Fakku could just exchange their MySpace urls or whatever if they want to see each other's blogs. Then again, some people here might want to keep those sorts of things separate. They might not want someone leaving a comment saying, "That porn you recommended rocks!" on the MySpace that their friends and family reads.
I'm also afraid that a personal blog could cause a bit of drama. If everyone acted nice, it wouldn't be a problem, but that's unrealistic. It wouldn't be hard at all for someone to comment on someone's blog with, "That was stupid as hell" and stir up a load of shit, and I know there are some members who would do such a thing. While posting in the forums and in your blog would be basically the same thing, there'd still be a perception that your blog was different, that it was more personal. You might not mind if someone calls you dumb on the forums, but when they come to your personal space and call you dumb, it has a greater impact.

Reminds me of the failed proposal of a friendster type thing in our profile to add others to our friend list. While the idea isn't the same specifically, I don't think that adding blogs would do any good, nor do I think FAKKU! in particular needs it. ShaggyJebus mentioned many blogging websites, and after given this more thought, I don't think FAKKU! should implement something like that... and dispense with the addition of more links.

The thing about a blog is that it's content would be completely seperate from Fakku, even if it were within fakku,
If users abuse blogs it's not like it'd spam the site though, their own personal blog would be spammed... Overall there are some presentable issues when implementing a feature like this, but overall I think it'd only add to the character of the site.
Also the idea of not needing it is perceptive, while many wouldn't use it, many more would, and while there are tons of sites you can start your own blog at...a within the community blog can be very good as it connects throughout the community and gives the users something more to do than spam the forums.. there is a plus to this as well, the problem with a lot of blogs is that no one reads them so the blog owners get discouraged, if personal blogs were implemented here it would give such a large base and a huge change for their individual posting to be read that it'd be interesting to see how it plays out..

I might use it. I don't care whether it's implemented or not though. If there's a new feature here, I'll try using it.

On the other hand, I think I would prefer keeping even a mini-blog on Fakku then on Myspace or Facebook. I get chills just thinking about those sites.

Suggestion: If people do not want to set up their own journal (the possibilities are endless, sites such as wordpress or blogspot offering their services free of charge abound), they could always resort to:
1.) Using their signature as a miniature blog space (I'm going to regret suggesting this)
2.) Making one big thread, intitled BLOG BLOG LOL for them all in IB, wherein they have lease to blog as they wish. That way you could very quickly see if people would be willing to use the suggested feature.

While those aren't necessarily bad, it just isn't the same as your own blogspace, and a blog sphere within fakku would be great imo, but we'll just have to see what others think.

I'm with g-money on this one. I think the blog function would be too much sand for FAKKU!. I think it's okay to rather add more special interest sections.
