Other languages banned from Fakku?
0
As it is becoming somewhat of a hot debate as of late in forums like Random and IB I thought I'd ask for some guidance on this. As I have read the rules of posting on Fakku written by Raze that were posted in this forum, they make no mention of posting in other languages being against the rules of posting or inappropriate content. At least they do not on the front page. So I have to ask. Are other languages besides English banned from use on the Fakku forums or not?

I remember a long time ago the rules stated that the official language was English and to only use English while on Fakku. I can't seem to find that now.

I've read the rules by Raze and it isn't mentioned...Perhaps the rules need to be updated? Or is it an unwritten rule?

This topic brings back some memories.
A long time ago, there were a few users who created a thread and started to post solely in Indonesian. Although I may have offended them, I had no choice but to lock the topic due to the following two reasons:
1) By posting and chatting in a native language, it prevents other members who have no knowledge of said language from participating in the discussion. Personally, I would wish for everyone to interact and communicate with one another, instead of simply sticking to their own small group, or segregating others.
2) Secondly, it makes a dangerous precedent. If a group of users were allowed to post and chat in their native language, others may follow suit. I believe there are hundreds of languages throughout the world, and I don't wish to see hundreds of threads in different languages on Fakku.
This is my personal opinion on the issue and up till today, it still stands.

While it may be easy to get in and chat, segregation is in some cases already in place, as some users never leave their chat threads, it seems. (I'm thinking of the Fakku Cafe right there, which lost it's initial "purpose" ages ago and is now home to a small group of chat sub dwellers)
Many more are rarely ever even seen outside the chat sub.
While I think it's not that big of a deal, I think that makes this argument a bit hypocritical, at least in my opinion.

The only reason the Filipino chat topic was removed is because FAKKU is an English website, and we don't want people posting in different languages and confusing everyone.https://www.fakku.net/viewtopic.php?p=951470#951470

It's not easy to spam pointless topics? Wow you must lead a very dull life if you find that hard.

I guess it wouldn't be a problem then if people gave an English translation.

Only if dudes want to keep it between them. They can then keep it to PM as well...
To me, those dudes are just too lazy to speak English instead of being genuinely interested in languages other than their own.

well, speaking in other languages seems OK to me, at least keep it in a minimal, don't make other languages the main language you speak in one thread.

People could be having conversations here in the open about illegal things and we would never know coz we do not speak the language.

So keep other languages within context or just don't use them completely, any decision reached yet?

The last time I spoke to jake on the matter(2 weeks ago) he told me locking or deleting threads that contain other languages was how we did things. When the rules were updated it seems the point was left out, it may have been intended or oversight but until the date where Jacob or Matt tells me to allow other languages I will continue to follow my most recent information.
