Page load interruptions

Yeah, I'm getting a crapload of them too. I'm trying to remember to copy the posts I write just in case I get one of those errors (though most of the times I forget *must train* heh). I looked at the users stats now and crap man, 1500 people! I mean, it's not even the evening time in the U.S. right now when I'm guessing even more come on (no wonder there's time out and stuff).
Yaknow though, seeing these stats:
Our users have made a total of 250880 posts
We have 95685 registered users
That's like two and a half posts per person which there must be a helluva lot of users just sitting there. I wonder if the forum program can shoot an email out to everyone and those that get bounced back (like email doesn't exist, etc.) get deleted.

I am getting owned by these interruptions. It's becoming almost impossible to click on a link here without some page load errors. Those guests are piling up in record numbers.^What he said lol, i got three of 'em in a row trying to post this.

It's happening a lot to me, too, but I don't really mind that much. I'm a passive guy, I guess.
As for "Why is today so special?" and the like, you have to remember that it's winter break. That means people don't have school (be it high school or college), and some people may not even have work. It's expected that more people would be on. Also, Fakku has only gotten more popular since its creation, so there are more people visiting Fakku than this time last year. At least, I think that's the way it is.

I think it also has to do with the new uploads... lots of people trying to download/view them... probably a case of lots of little things adding up to one big problem... personally I'm not so annoyed as I am worried.
as to leechers... I'm trying to figure out how one leeches off a website? Torrents I get... *shrugs* The problem will disperse once school is back in session and all the little kiddies that "shouldn't" be looking at this stuff in the first place are back to their normal routine :P

Leeches in a website can be a person who just download the goodies without giving any kind of contribution. The term leechers doesn't always have to do with torrents.
And this connection problem is really hurting my motivation to go into the forums, cause sometimes I have too reload about 3 times before entering a thread. :?

This is actually a huge problem that is just starting to arise. It happens when there are 1000+ users online. The server is getting bottlenecked with all of the connections, so things start to run really slowly.
I am going to dedicate some time over the weekend to try to improve things, but until then it will continue whenever there are that many people online.
Kick out the leechers until it's fix'd~ 8)
I second this motion.

Would it be possible that motemote is causing so much of an influx? I wonder if after it's over if it will still be this way.
Still, I'm really enjoying these forums so even if I have to hit submit 5 or 6 times, I'd find patience to get thru it. =p

as everyone said... it's quite frustrating!
especially last night... I couldn't describe my aggravation when I was posting for almost about an hour and when I finally did, it wound up being doubled... and it took even longer just to delete that twin post!!!
hope it all goes back to normal soon...

A lot of people are agreeing with the "kick out the leechers" idea, but that would go against what Fakku is, a free hentai site. Furthermore, it's hard to define what a "leecher" is on Fakku.
If a person doesn't want to post in the forums but wants to download stuff, does that make him a leecher? Or just a person who doesn't want to spend time on the forums? If I didn't feel like talking for a week and didn't make a single post but still downloaded stuff, would that make me a leecher?
At this moment, we have over 1,200 users online. Only about 60 of them are registered. That's 5% of the total users, leaving 1,140 users that people could call "leechers." If Fakku was only for registered users, I'm sure a lot of people would leave, but even more of them would register and perhaps not even make a single post on the forums. Nothing would change, because there'd still be a ton of users online.
How could we get rid of "leechers" to make the site run faster? We've already seen the effects of instituting a minimum post count. And if we forced people to have accounts to be able to download anything, we'd end up with 1,100 registered users online out of 1,200 users total, but only a handful of those would post anything in the forums.
Also, to be frank, I don't think I'd like Fakku if all those people got accounts and posted on the forums. That'd be too much activity. It'd be like Gaia Online, with threads getting bumped only to fall back to the second page within five minutes.
I'm not sure what can be done to remedy this problem, but we can't just say, "Get rid of the leechers." The typical leecher is the same as the typical user who posts on the forums, except the former doesn't spend time making posts.

Since we can't do shit bitching about how slow this is getting let's leave it to Jacob to make the decision. The question here should be something along the lines of: How do we keep fakku the way it was intended but make it so it can be used without connection problems? I believe this technology is within our grasp. The problem is getting a hold of it.
