Post deletion.

I would like to suggest that in the future rather than delete posts moderators should edit the content of the original poster with something like this: "ModEdit by Jacob because blah blah blah..." I think giving us a reason as to why our post was not of quality would help users understand what good posts and topics are.
Avoid posting anything about previous drama.

@Waar: I'm sure if you caught it, but Mike stated his reasons for deleting your posts back in the thread(s) in Random.

I'd roll with this.
Not only would this give an idea about what not to do (obvious idiocy is obvious but there are times when a post splits ppl between those who lol and those who flame) but also a visible intervention of a mod can often bring a topic back on track.

I like Waar's idea. Or a PM to the user the reason why said MOD deleted their post. Most forums use those methods. It's a simple easy fix. A mod edit and explanation as to why the edit occurred would solve the problem of a user wondering what happened whether it was a forum issue or unappropriated post. Also prevent future users that post nothing but useless info or are being idiots from making threads on MOD power abuse. Maybe it will teach better etiquette and netiquette.

It appears that another event has occurred on Fakku while I was away, but I guess I should not dwell on it.
Most of the time, I will send you guys (and girls) a PM when moving or locking topics. For double or even triple posts, I will merge them manually using the edit button, before removing the 2nd and subsequent posts, which I hope members will not mind. If required, I am willing to send a PM informing said party of my actions.
Even then, there will be times when we are unable to inform everyone of our actions. One example was the Leecher arc, when I deleted a few topics, resulting in quite a number of posts being lost as well, though I thought they were mostly spam.

Hahaha, such a hard-head you are Waar, really...
In any case, I don't think that by merely editing a post, which should clearly be deleted, is enough to make a point. No-good-posts doesn't need to count towards a no-good-spammer's total-post-count don't you think? Noticing/informing the user through pm (as I've stated in the original-locked-thread) should be more than enough. If the user wants to question the decision, he's more than welcome to reply (argue through pm) to whomever (staff/mod) deleted his post/s.
If by editing means that the MOD responsible for doing so would make himself known, then I guess it should be fine. But if he'd only edit a post and stay anonymous, it might result to what Waar did just earlier or even worse, which could even lead to more topic derailments and spams. Thus, I'm pretty much pro-deletion of useless and nuisance posts! This is the only way how I can see the authorities would be able to make a more solid statement!

In all honesty it wasn't insulting you in any way. You can take it that way if you want, but it wasn't intended to. Sorry if it came across that way.

Same thing happened to me Waar. Trust me, I was annoyed. Lol I made a "terrorism" joke so the post had to be deleted. Guess you can never be too sure if a user means it. I think you remember that though.
Anyway, I said something about it and a mod kindly PMed me with an explanation. So I definitely understand why you're doing this.

Hohoho. I guess I should confess to my crimes. :D
Then again, I still stand by my decision that the above-mentioned post may cause some problems for Fakku if something were to really happen.

Hermit, I think one of the biggest issues with fakku right now is that there is a misconception about the activeness of our moderators, I think if there were a more visual reminder as Das said such as "edited by so and so" we might be able to change that misconception. It might not matter but it leads to many users screaming about a lack of moderation which I don't believe is the same at this point in time.

Lol, and I respect that. It makes sense.
[Anywho, lol, in order to avoid derailing the thread, I'll stop posting here now.]

As much as I can see your "visibility" point, the real question is, will (if ever the editing of one's post shall be implemented) it even be noticeable? How many users do you think will come to a random thread and read all of the previous posts dating back to the first, second, or third page before actually posting? How would even the user, who got his post edited, know that it happened? Are you saying that it's alright to add more work for the MODs who are clearly less than a decent in number?! Would they have to go out of their way just to edit a particular post, explain the reasons, and then PM the user involved only to inform him that a particular post of his got edited?
Too much work for the MODs if that's what you're suggesting they should do. They're not even active for the most part as you've mentioned. It'll be much easier still to just completely delete any unnecessary no-good post (IMO).
ed: I'm not thinking too clearly now... I need to sleep... seriously! (don't expect any more replies from me till kingdom come!)

I'm saying the pm is unnecessary if they edit the post as my idea states, if the user does not check back on his or her own post then there will be no issue and if the user does check his own post then he can see the answer himself. You asked me how many read all the posts in a thread; I would hope the majority of Fakku users do, with the exception of newfags I think most do. Perhaps there is no need to read all 1000+ pages of the random squad thread but if a thread is only a few pages I should hope they read those pages, I sure as hell do.
Look at it this way, your idea and my idea, both require about the same amount of work, both accomplish the same goals, but mine allows for a visibility factor which we sorely need. Don't see a real negative to my idea, it's how IGN does it.

Possibly a removal log would be very handy, even if only preserved for 48 hours after deletion. I myself have found moments where I will scratch my head, wondering where in $deity's name my posts have run off too.
I condone any system behind removal of posts, and Gambler has warned me before. In cases like Leecher or necrobumping users, it's reasonable to delete quickly and not bother notifying users. But when around 10-100 of your posts go walkies, one does want to know exactly why.
Private Messages are too time consuming for a good moderator who has other things to move and delete, an automated system would encompass all cases without effort from the moderation team.
Editing messages with the words something like [Post Removed due to conflict with rules] is A) Time consuming again and B) Leaves the post there, so the person still gets a postcount for something they did wrong/caused too much conflict.

im not sure post count is seen as the treasure it was once was... Just feels like spammers has been few are far between recently.
