Post Your Pics! Controversy
0
I am posting here requesting a reply from Jacob about a certain problem I see in the Post Your Pics! thread. I'm not faulting waar for following rules, but I am curious as to the exact rules for the thread in question. If you look at the last page or so, you will see extremely strict rules being enforced, effectively not allowing anyone to comment on a photo in fear of going off topic" and having their post removed. As I stated previously, I am simply looking for a response from Jacob on the matter to know if this is indeed the rule set he has laid out, and if there is anyway to get these rules relaxed.

Well to be fair the only things i removed were comments made about illumi's pic which was posted days before and discussion about the rules of the thread.

Well, if the comments go off on a tangent all the time, it'd belong in IB and we all know what happens then if Waar is not watching.
I think the best way to solve this is to split the pics and the comments. Pics in Random, comments in IB. Also keeps Waar's workload at a minimum, I think.

I guess I support TMS's position, but I guess there is no point since he made a new thread in IB where people can comment freely, although the current "Post Your Pics" thread will become obsolete if all you can do is post pictures.

I'm throwing my support behind PD and TMS on this. I would prefer comments to be allowed with the guideline that the comment must be related to the picture in a direct manner or anecdote relating to the picture. As long as the comment can be justified as being tied into the picture some way.

I lol'd. This actually happens to a lot of threads. Most threads have two-three users posting one after another (with rare exceptions). This happens very often with those IB games and such, which is why I rarely bother to post in those types of threads. Example: Say something about the above user
Basically these threads tend to become really spammish and filled with chatter (due to the same few people posting over and over), which limits a threads potential. In my opinion, it's not too big a deal and if people want to do it.. well, who am I to stop them? But it keeps me (and possibly others) from being motivated to post.
On the topic at hand: (Kind of went off on a tangent there)
If comments are about a picture in the thread and not about the food someone ate a few minutes ago, they're on topic in my book.

the real problem with this is that after the first round of comments it rarely stops, people start making comments about comments and this is about 7 times worse when the user posting pics is a female. Another issue is people who are new, I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone new post the original op's 14 year old visage because she was an attractive Asian girl. The final issue I see is when users make a "nice hair" reply, it's spamming and the thread was moved to random to avoid post like these; a +1 like that should not be tolerated. This would be resolved if it were moved to IB, I would still remind users to not make it a chat thread but I could let a lot more go if it was the case.

I can't speak for the others but, I simply want to know where the line is specificly.
How many comments can be made until a new pic is required?
How many people can comment on a picture?
How far off center are comments allowed to be?
Can users post anecdotes of something in the picture that it reminds them of (i.e. a poster in the background, a figurine in the picture)?
What kind of comments are considered spam and deleted on site?
Can't blame people for wanting a solid definition of the rules.

that's a strong accusation. has Waar been abusing power?

@Penguin: Wow having a limit on how many people can comment on a picture is ridiculous, I think. Though I can see you are not serious with the questions (or not)I wasn't serious. I couldn't care less if the thread became a chat thread with people posting their pictures amongst the chatter but, Waar has started a mission to make the PyP thread NOT become a chat thread.
I simply wanted the rules set in stone so everybody had a guideline. That way if Waar overstepped his bounds people could call him on it and if another user falls under the definition of spamming in the thread then Waar can justify his actions.

This is going into such a tangent. How about this?
1)See a picture you like
2)Quote it
3)Spoil it
4) Comment on the picture but don't go off into complete nonsense
If another user wants to comment then just delete what the previous person said and comment on it don't make a "Quote Pyramid" and don't comment on other peoples comments.
If you are the user in the picture and don't like what is said well who cares you posted it on the web so you can't complain.

lol, If that's what the man believes then he is entitled to his opinion; I am the only one who fully knows what has been removed from the thread. If you want assurance I can tell you I haven't abused power but whether you believe me is up to you. I don't exactly understand what he means by my position, my position as a mod or my position in this discussion? If it's my position as mod then that would be for Jacob to consider but I don't believe I overstepped my bounds. If the comment had to do with my position in the discussion then I must disagree, I deleted posts that supported both sides. and in the end I'm only doing what i've been told to do; keep that thread on topic and spam free.
edit: going to sticky the thread to avoid it going anywhere in random in the future; if it's not there later then most likely someone removed it's sticky.

I hate being nitpicky like this but here are the posts that were left alone that didn't directly relate to photos:
Spoiler:
These were left alone yet arguments made my FPOD, illumi and I (along with other's who posted that there would be screen caps made) were deleted without a satisfying explanation.
Although you can consider Rovencrone and Quadratic's posts to be questioning Waar's actions as well, he deleted ours and left theirs with while giving them a satisfying rebuttal. Why? I don't know. I don't want to say Waar would want to run away from a debate, but if it is, and he deleted them for that reason I guess you can consider it an abuse of power.

they were left because i responded to them, it would have looked foolish if i had simply responded to nothing. At some point i started to delete everything though as nothing related to the topic at hand, even post i replied to. PD, if you have an issue with me as a moderator send an email to Jacob, you're not even responding to the topic now but changing the subject entirely.

I don't like leaving people hanging as you have done in PyP thread. I really never had a problem with you being a mod until this point. I just don't see you using common sense when it comes to this subject.

Alright guys, let's not turn this into a waar witch hunt, that was not the point of this topic. I just wanted Jacob to lay out the rules so everyone could see them and quit bitching.

what? my point was that i didn't leave people hanging, i responded to post made to me and i left those which i replied to. I then decided we were getting too off topic and deleted everything. I apologize for not deleting every post but I don't think i was picking and choosing which to leave based on who they supported. I honestly don't care if the rules are changed in the thread; I don't get a boner every time i delete a post. What does deleting post which are off topic have to do with common sense, I tried to be more lenient at first and when that failed (as people kept posting off topic) i decided that was over.
