Regarding rules/FAQs and the influx of new users

I do agree that some more moderators would be the best choice. I totally disaprove the use of postcounting, mainly because i know that there are more people like me, look at my join date, then look at my postcount. And i'm here everyday. I know that there must be more ppl like that, who are not THE posters, but are still here as part of the forum, and don't want to be discriminated or taken as noobs because of their postcount. It's just unfair.
Also, i support the idea of making an index containing all the rules in one sticky thread. I know most ppl don't, but whenever i join a forum, the rules are the first thread that i read, and i think fakku is lacking it.

@Gambler: Please scratch my use of forum member statistics – because it’s statistics, it’s only something to be based off of, not to be relied upon. (I knew I was going to get it for using member stats.) My main point is that we should add some more moderators to the ranks. How to determine that is of course at the discretion of the admins, but I at least hope for 2-3 moderators within the following months. Since most moderators and admins have expressed their go-ahead for reporting/PMing them for misplaced threads and the like, I think that will help our situation for now. Also, having more moderators can’t hurt right? People get the moderator position because they earn it, or meet the approval of the head staff. I can’t imagine moderators abusing their privileges. (Though if you can tweak the results for Haruna to win… hehehe, that’s one abuse I can overlook any day .) So in the end, this is only to help the forum flow and organization.
Regarding the rules, I totally understand that most users won’t bother reading it, but most people at least glance at it like you and me and Aya-senpai, and especially if they have to sign an user agreement, shrink-wrap click-on type. I guess my major point is that most if not all forums have an obvious page of rules and FAQs and FAKKU lacks that. My other points only goes to show that it improves sufficiency, efficiency, ease of reference and navigation, legality, and organization, which only goes to bolster my main point.
I think I can circumvent the long-windedness of the rules page I created as a potential draft into something much shorter. I noticed that FAKKU has an “About” link at the top of the page. We can put FAKKU’s philosophy and mission statement there along with the cool image of our three admins on top of the mountain. Also, the netiquette portion can really be subsumed into the general posting rules now that I think about it. Nikon’s old thread on rules is decent and can be used as a template for more and better improvements. So it would look something like this instead:
Your words are like honey to my ears. Glad to know someone is also interested in improving the rules/layout. I really think it will help the site. So, more input would be gladly appreciated. Hell, I’ll be willing to head this mini-infrastructure project if you like, and since my classes will be over by next week, I’ll have plenty of time to work on editing, revising, moving stuff to make a workable rules/FAQ page. I don’t know coding or how to work in forums, but I can definitely provide what can be put into the rules/FAQ page and how to be put in there.

I forgot to mention that we can institute this page of FAQs into the main forum page itself rather than a sticky within a section of the main section. Ideally it go under the FAKKU main section of the forums as a section underneath the Front Page News section.
I hate to bump threads (because I never do), but I feel that this is an important issue that hasn't received enough attention or feedback from the community. (Don't wanna come off sounding like a pompous bastard, but I truly feel that this is in the best interests of FAKKU.) And if my posts are long, please bear with them and read them in its entirety rather than read one part and ignore the rest. You'll get why I'm supporting this so fervently.

I might be beating a dead horse, but I feel like it needs to be said.
having a faq/rules page is all well and good, but people will ignore it entirely. Even if you shoehorn it in blizzard style, and have the person scroll to the bottom to click next.... but the vast majority will ignore it (including me, but that's because the rules for most forums tend to be the same across the board). at least you could give them a reason to ban them if they break the rules, citing the fact that they had to read them.

@spaxxor: I wrote this in your PM, but it's the same thing and I'll post it here so that others can ponder.
If you read the thread, one of the primary reasons that I wrote was that this new refurbished page of rules/FAQs will now give the appropriate legal firepower to the staff where the rule breakers no longer have excuses of, "I couldn't find the rules or FAQs," or, "There's so many rules that I couldn't memorize them," and the like. We also have rules and FAQs that are specific to FAKKU, so it should be worth noting that down in a rules/FAQ page. I keep stressing that my main point is that most or all forums have a setup of a page/section solely dedicated to the rules, and FAKKU should too. This page of rules/FAQs will be all the reason rule breakers need to understand the disciplinary action that was assigned to them. The other thing to note is that our rules and FAQs are really scattered and not in obvious locations, so this will be easy reference.

well, I didn't intend for my post to dome across that way. I was just stating the fact that people will ignore it regardless, not that you shouldn't put one up. and as I stated again, it will give the admins ammo to ban.
I completely support a centralized rule index, so the retarded won't have ammo to throw back at the mod team.
and as a suggestion make the rules as specific as possible, because some noobs have a few braincells and twist the rules around in their favor

My bad, yea, I must have read your post in a different manner. This is exactly why we need a rules/FAQ page, and spaxxor's of the same opinion. The only thing is that the rules can't be too specific (nor do I see any rule being too complicated) or else it will be harder to remember. And all the same, I'm willing to spearhead this because it will benefit FAKKU in many ways. (Does not reduce noobs antics - that's what moderators are for.)

well, being someone in former power of these things, I've seen my own rules twisted against me. so make sure that you leave zero loopholes for noobs to exploit(to an extent).

Any FAKKU staff input? Because if this is too much of a pain in the butt, give it the hammer, but if reasonable, tell me more suggestions/comments/criticisms.

g-money, imo, it would be most effective if you write the whole rules/FAQ as plain text and then present that text to be rated, criticized and improved, and then maybe later become "official rules", rather than just wait for some feedback. I'm on ur side and i am volunteer if you need help. I don't know, i just think that it's most worthy to bring up a problem when you already have at least a grasp of the solution.

I agree that maybe I should present a text of the completed rules/FAQs, but I have to be honest that I'd rather not go through that until I can get someone's approval first. As far as I can see, here are the reactions to the suggestions I made from the very beginning:
1. Users and some staff agree that while this may be an excercise in futile effort, they agree that the rules/FAQs are scattered and messy. Unfortunately, no staff claims to do anything about it even though I stipulated I would. It's like waiting for a signal from above to do something. Why should I rewrite the rules if nobody on the staff has agreed to anything, or give me a chance and then they'll decide? I gave my arguments, which I deem valid and rational enough to hold water, so now I'm currently waiting for approval. (I'm even wondering if anybody went through the mountain of text I posted) If they say no with reason, then that's the end of it and I won't pursue this matter anymore. But if they agree, I'd rewrite the rules within a day.
2. Moderators are currently being scouted from what I heard, least Raze is looking for some. The current countermeasure is to a) report misplaced threads or b) PM FAKKU staff. But it happens everyday, so I hope we can find additions to the moderating staff soon.
3. Post count was done before and failed spectacularly. No go. As for a punitive system, only Mattarat expressed interest in a temporary account ban. No other staff did though in general the users have expressed mild agreement. I don't believe that this is a valid venue, so for now this has been put aside.
I do have a grasp of the solution and I provided an outline of what the new Rules/FAQs would look like, subject to change per circumstances. If it comes to it, I will PM the admins and hear it from the horses' mouths, except I'd rather not do that because then I'd look like an annoying arrogant idiot, but I think that this is too important of an issue to let go of without official opinion.
I'd definitely would need some help in doing this due to the sheer amount of rules and FAQs that one could possibly cover. Spaxxor said that he had experience in writing rules, so his help would also be appreciated.

So go ahead and draft something up, and others, feel free to contribute. If I like what I see, then that's a good thing, if not, then at least you tried.

There's been a temp ban system in the works for a while now, we just haven't given it to the mods yet. We fully intend to, and I think I expressed this in the past.
As for mod scouting it's still underway, although I have already sent a PM to one person as of now. About PMing mods and admins, I will add that this is probably the best way to go instead of posting on the problem thread, simply because hundreds and hundreds of posts are made on FAKKU everyday and wading through them all is near impossible. Be sure to provide a link to the post, the offender's username, and the reason for the PM. Just don't PM me though; I've got enough on my plate already. However, I'm sure Gambler, Mike, and Mattarat (and maybe even Jacob) would be glad to help. For more serious offenses, we didn't put a report button there for nothing.

Well, I've got approval from Raze himself (Man, you must be busy, I haven't seen around in a while.) I expect that I finish this by today, if not tomorrow due to the sheer amount of rules, stickies, FAQs, and whatnot. Aya-senpai, I'll contact you for help when needed and also for a second opinion/revision before I submit this.

I would like to collaborate with you on this if at all possible. Even if it's proof reading, I think I have a few ideas that could go well in the rules. However I'm going to keep those to myself until I hear anything from you g-money

Great, I'm glad to have you on board spaxxor. I'm currently working on a Word 2003 document with 12 font, so it's on it's third page already, and I haven't even gotten to the FAQs. I need to take a halt due to parental interference (they expect me to study all day for tests and shit for my local college that I'm attending). I will most likely be able to finish this before the end of this week provided that I spend 1-2 hours on it. This also requires constant checking of the forum for reference and stuff. Also, I have no idea how to upload a document onto a site... any ideas? I might have to e-mail it to individual members instead.

there should be a warning posted at the begging of one of the stickies in the motemote thread for those that haven't been stampeded by them like I have :P
