[Locked] Stupid idea regarding rep

Yeah I hate when people just -rep you for no good reason, I've actually seen alot of shit like that happening in the forums to some unlucky member, but I got no rep to begin with to worry about it for myself lol.

I still say the best "rep" system is in the form of thanks, thank the poster, nothing more nothing less, it could even only be viewed in their profile rather than on posts "You were thanked for this post by x people" or something...

Yeah a thanks would be great and is better than rep, but it's just another fun little addition so people can brag about it or something lol.

It's a double-edged issue with me. I understand it from the aspect that people with a higher reputation are often considered to be good members (members that upload, fulfill requests or help or talk about serious discussions.) At the same time though, I don't think it is an entirely accurate representation of a member's worth. I'm sure there are plenty of members here who have a low rep that could be considered to deserve a higher number than they have, and there are probably those who rep their friends who don't deserve the score they have received.

In the end it's an indicator. You have to make your own decision based on how you and other people interact with the members.

Anyway, one rep per 24 hours is enough. As other people have mentioned, if you are really determined to give people their dues and you tend to forget things, making a little list in a text file or something is a simple and easy way to solve that problem.

I noticed how a good number of the posts in this thread note and/or complain that the reputation system is not being used correctly. By pointing the aforementioned fact out, I'm being the perfect example of an "attention-whoring e-bitch who never posts anything worthwhile"? Amazing, you guys, really.

Wow you pointed out that people don't use it "correctly." The whole point of this is: what is the "correct" way that rep should be used? If you say that we're doing it wrong, that implies you know specifically what the problems are and that maybe you know a solution.

Please motherfucker, show me where I go around moaning and groaning about shit that's going on and telling others they're doing it wrong or that they shouldn't be doing something because I don't like it. Maybe then I'll accept your little accusation.

The reputation system will probably not change. People get worked up about it, but is that a bad thing? Is it a bad thing that you care about reputation? No it's not. Look at klown, he has like 500 more reputation than me (and I created this place). I like reputation the way it is.
