I'll be more worried about men who are pretending to be women by simply selecting "female".
If you want to know a particular user's sex, you could just ask via PM or investigate a little by looking at their past post - post in the "Post your Pics" thread or in the Love and Romance section should hint at what their sex is.

Okay hello. You must be new to the internet. Here's a sliver of knowledge for you: People have avatars of whatever they want, and an avatar is generally not to be taken as a remotely good representation of the person.
As for why any girl on the internet bring pegged as an attention whore? Untrue. It's the act of going around broadcasting "I'M A GIRL, I'M A GIRL" that is categorized as being an attention whore.
There is no need for gender specification. What do you hope to achieve, anyway? By knowing via their profile if someone is male or female, you intend to treat them differently? This is assuming they set it truthfully to begin with.

So, basically, I'll just stick to guessing.. I wouldn't check it out on somebodies profile unless they were like in my state... which in this day and age, i highly doubt. Small island off the coast of australia! hell to the yeah.
Also, I'm actually 18 I'm a guy, and i like bread sticks. :D

I'm sorry if you disliked my opinion but I am entitled to one and don't appreciate you jumping down my throat for it.More like you gave the reasons for your opinion (albeit shallow), and I gave you my reasons for disliking them. I did not jump down anyone's throat... well, hadn't, anyway.

Is this an argument for the topic's suggestion? Because it's a pretty bad one.

i don't think it would have made a difference, i didn't invite her to start a relationship, I invited her to talk.

I don't think the OP has a bad idea though. It is human nature to be curious about someone's sex or gender. It isn't always that you are going act differently to another person depending on their gender or sex, but you do get more context of perhaps what they are thinking or who they are in real life. Things like sex, age, and race don't define a person, but they do give clues to other people about the type of person you are.
I understand one of the benefits of anonymity on the internet is that you don't have to worry about being treated by some people based on your sex. However, there are people who don't care about being anonymous, and would like to share who they are with people - that isn't attention whoring.
You are always going to be treated differently depending on your sex and the internet doesn't protect you from this. For girls, people simply assume you are a man and then you are treated like a man. If someone rather not be categorized as a male by default, they'll literally have to make an effort to reverse that. This shouldn't be confused with attention whoring.
