Stanley Kubrick really is a madman.he won't allow his secretary to copy all the words thus all the words alone are hand typed with nothing but the same words all over again.
and the reason why Shelley Duvall's act unbelievably so real when she's getting scared of jack was because Kubrick intentionally make her really uncomfortable in the set and forcing her to repeat the scene where she defend herself with a baseball bat in 127 times.

There is a great deal of confusion regarding this film and the number of retakes of certain scenes. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the scene where Wendy is backing up the stairs swinging the baseball bat was shot 127 times, which is a record for the most takes of a single scene. However, both Steadicam operator Garrett Brown and assistant editor Gordon Stainforth say this is inaccurate - the scene was shot about 35-45 times. Brown does say however that the scene where Hallorann explains to Danny what shining is was shot 148 times, which is a world record. Kubrick has always wanted the audience to have the true authentic experience. He wants his movies to be realistic and believable not some half made Ed Wood crap. While I do agree with you that he puts his actors on 'a lot' of stress. But he also makes them better actors.
Take Vincent D'Onofrio for example: Full Metal Jacket was his first major film. And because of the quality Kubrick demanded from his actors, he made Vincent's future career. Without FMJ I'm positive Vincent wouldn't be the actor he is today.
Kubrick is the man*
even though he's close to being an actual madman and actually damaged Malcolm McDowell eyes during the torture scene in Clockwork Orange,he is the man.

To be honest though. Kubrick's The Shining is a very bad adaption of a very good book. It's also pretty bad in its own right.

But I don't agree with you that the movie is bad. It's a more "believable" horror movie. "What happens if you put a man in isolation for 6 months?"
Why do you think The Shining is bad?
