I'm on my first black belt (1st "dan", third highest rank) in Tae-kwon Do and have participated in local mixed martial-art tournaments on more than a few occasions (I haven't won any, got second place once). Sometimes I have trouble with talented grappling artists, but for the most part they have never been any more difficult to fight than talented striking artists.

It's not like you don't learn how to counter grapple artists in striking arts either (where did you get that from?). My teacher taught me to keep yourself at least a leg-width apart and never make the first move. Naturally, because of the practices that striking arts entail, a striker will almost always have faster body motion than a grappler, so for me it's a matter of judging your speed and then tuning mine accordingly. Strength can always be sacrificed if you need more agility. If you can't catch my kick properly and in the right way, you're going to have a bad time, because with a striking artist all it takes is one blow and you're seriously injured or dead. It's not about disarming your opponent, it's about killing them. I won't even get into all the different ways we're taught to fuck with our momentum to confuse our opponents either.

Don't think that just because someone practices a striking art they won't have the ability to deal with someone who practices a grapple art, it simply isn't true.

Btw, no amateur catches a kick from a professional, it's almost impossible if you know what you're doing. we block it/slide it away (assuming we get the opportunity) to tip off your balance so we can get close and make you fall. If you learn Taekwon-do and only have basic training in holds/chokes we will dominate you once you've fell onto the ground.

If a woman starts hitting you continuously and you had no other choice then it's an ok book for me. I had my days too where I had to stop women with a single blow just so they could stop but I apologized later for it and they realized their fault in a situation too.

I know it's bad hitting a woman, but sometimes it has to be used to stop them, because women can go all out too just like us men.
