Buy or Download
So...

So a certain game came out the other day. I could be a pirate or I could be a normal person and buy it. All my other friends just downloaded it thought that was a bad idea since i like this series but now it's sounding appealing.

My philosophy is... buy it if you like it. But you gotta try it out first.

I have always been a pirate ever since.
I used to think the PS1 games that I buy are what others everywhere buy as well but I found out... they're pirated!!
Now I just download.
[size=1]And I... uh...even sell what I download.[/h]

I don't even remember when I last downloaded a game other than a VN. Everything I've played in recent years, I've bought myself.

Buy it if you have enough money and it won't make you broke.
my only download rule is:
1. If can't find a legal copy of it.
2. If the price will make my wallet and bank account empty

Be a pirate, and drink some rum for win XD.
Just kidding, well, better buy it if you really likes the series and can afford it. No harm come with that, right?

Depends on the game for me. With music or games I'll often download them first to try them, and if I play them a lot and get a lot out of them, I'll buy a legit copy to support the creators; I recently had a bit of a catchup with music, where I bought about 12 albums of artists whose music I listened to on a daily basis. I'll admit having a DS cart, simply because I only play the DS on my travels or for game reviews; I also don't have a great PC though, so I buy quite a lot of 360 games regardless.
If you have the money and you like the series, buy it. :P

Last game I bought was Persona 4 about a year ago, and that was only because it was reduced to £7 (in conjunction with another special offer). New games here usually cost between £40 to £50. For the same money you could get a return flight to Barcelona and have a night out there. Or buy about 25 pints of beer. Or buy have a weekend in a luxury hotel or something. Basically, things that aren't just data cloned onto a plastic disc.
That said, I'm against piracy for the purposes of the requests section, obviously.

I bought Mass Effect 2 for £40 at the weekend; it kept me busy until last night, and not only do I feel like I could do another run-through right now, but also that it was a genuinely exciting and enjoyable cinematic experience. Just because you aren't going out doesn't mean that you can't get the same level of enjoyment out of it, nor that it's an inferior experience in some way. It's not always the case, but there are games like that out there that are well worth shelling out for, imo.

If its too long to download separately and I like it enough... id just pay to download it in one go. Games that like reaches 10GB, thats a pain, especially when at the end of it all you find out its all in russian.

I agree, but the point is, what you're actually buying can be just "cloned" for free, via download. By its very nature, it's pirateable and copyable. That cheapens it to me; not the experience per se but the monetary value of the experience. If I could just copy "a holiday to Barcelona" for free, I would. But by its very nature, it's impossible. So I feel it has a greater monetary value.
Edit
By the way, I'm not trying to say that everyone should pirate. I'm just trying to explain how I feel about it. Do what you like with your money.

I only pirate music and software, I always buy my video games.
I don't have the patience to wait for a 5GB download for ages and then have it die on me at 99%. Or the copies just refuse to work on my consoles (I'm a console gamer only). Or the stuff I want hasn't even been pirated.
With music, it's just that I ALWAYS buy what I like. But the music I mainly listen to needs some time to be fully appreciated, so I'm not too big on buying something off the shelf. Although myspace, last.fm and others made that easier.
As for software, I tend to go open source anyway...

Curious and Wondering
Matter of point for me, I always download it first. If I like it enough, I buy the legal copy. Saves me a lot of money and effort over buying what I'll probably won't like over the long run.
