Can I join? =w=Ah, ah, ah, my dear Rise. The proper statement should be "may I join?", because yes, ANYBODY can join, but it is through Führer PumpJack's permission that they may join, for he will simply not allow anyone to serve under him in EMPIRE GRAMMATICA (yes, it is so important, it shall be in complete capital letters)!
Mein Führer! If you will, please allow me to put my proofreading skills to proper use and grant me permission to join the EMPIRE!
HAIL GRAMMATICA!
Sure thing, Art. Everyone is allowed to join, since- much more fun than a trying initiation- is shameful exile.

Loool.
First offense. Never do such things in this thread.
Tomorrow, I'll have to see if the provided example is enough to absolve you of this trespass.

You shouldn't begin a sentence with a preposition, but I'll let it slide...

In the past, English teachers used to preach that one should never start a sentence with conjunctions like and or but. Does this rule still apply today?
Not entirely. It is already acceptable to start sentences with such conjunctions. Some authorities, in fact, even defend that for some cases conjunctions will do a better job than more formal constructions.
So, I'll start with whatever I feel like. In writing, you have to find the intersection between grammar rules and real life application.

I love Eats, Shoots & Leaves.
I found this sentence on Wikipedia yesterday in an article about Final Fantasy XIII-2 and it literally gave me a headache. To this moment, I have no idea what it's trying to say to me.
"One day, Snow disappears after leaving Serah to find Lightning for himself and her."
Did Snow disappear after leaving Serah? Did he really disappear or did he just leave? Is he finding Lightning for himself and Lightning or for himself and Serah?

[font=verdana][color=green]This seems to be a very interesting thread. Considered me intrigued.
However, I have some trepidation following someone who has committed a couple of mistakes himself. For example:
"This scourge that encroaches upon and blights the internet must be eradicated". This would be more accurate if it was:
"The scourge that encroaches upon... "
Or:
"This scourge which encroaches upon... "
Further, I have noticed that many posts in here fail to have a space between the ellipsis and the next word. Pump, rather ironically, happened to do this whilst chastising someone else for having incorrect grammar. Elaborating on the use of the ellipsis, it is also the case that it has been forgotten that the ellipsis doesn't mean that the sentence itself has ended, thus I have noticed the incorrect use of capitals after the ellipsis. Even a lead-in ellipsis has been incorrectly used.
Despite this, I'd like to join this cause.

There IS supposed to be a space between the ellipsis and the following word?! D:
MY LIFE IS A LIE!!! DX
At least I manage to correctly use lowercase letters.

It means Snow disappeared after he left to look for Lightning, to ease the minds/concerns of himself and of Serah.

Yes . . . You are also supposed to put a space in between each period, but that's often overlooked as well.
