My guess is that it was assigned according to your profile number. Example, mine is 150441, and I had the avatar that is #1 in the picture. Maybe it switches to the next set avatar with each number you go up in accounts?

I couldn't figure it out either Gambler, and I was here. I tried basing it on post count but that proved wrong. So I looked at reputation points and that didn't help either. Who knows how it really worked? Maybe Jacob could explain.
