Ive only heard about it from anime expo really, comedy show, and I just looked more into it today. It seems to be popular in japan and I think theres a few here in little tokyo, in LA. (jacob, sorry thought little tokyo was overrun by koreans - was drunk I think at the meetup)
these men and women I believe are trying to emulate the tanned beach look in the US or something and they always look like this everyday, its not jsut a cosplay. i wonder if its safe and you wont get skin cancer or something

yeah, either its a ton of makeup or they spend that much time on tanning salons like pro wrestlers - I guess youd have to hand it to them for the effort and work involved to pull it off.

i think there are different kinds of ganguro too, like the mild, medium and extreme kind? or im wrong there

Googled it a bit and apparently the more extreme styles are called yamanba and manba. The male equivelant is called a "center guy".
