Something special today. I'm proud to announce our first non-H translation, and the opening of it's accompanying blog, Little BLACK Butterflies! I know, I'm very original...
We've chosen to translate Kami no Shizuku, which is commonly translated as The Tears of God in English. If I may quote Wikipedia’s description:
It’s a thoroughly engrossing story. It’s well written with excellent artwork, and if you have even the most passing interest in wine then you’re sure to find it fascinating. It’s exceptionally popular in Japan, Korea and China but for some reason it’s never been published in English. There are currently 23 tanks, of which 20 chapters have been translated. This puts us a little into the start of tank 3, which is where I step in. I Eat Manga has translated the last 12 chapters or so, and we’ll be trading off chapters in order to get some progress on this magnificent story.
Anyway, enough talk. The latest chapter that we've translated, 21, is linked to the picture above. I'll work on getting the first 20 uploaded to FAKKU ASAP, but they're available in a zip on the BLOG if you need.
Please leave us lots of comments letting us know what you think of this exciting new development!
We've chosen to translate Kami no Shizuku, which is commonly translated as The Tears of God in English. If I may quote Wikipedia’s description:
Shizuku Kanzaki, is the son of a recently deceased, world renowned wine critic Yutaka Kanzaki who owns a vast wine collection. In order to take ownership of his legacy, he must find 13 wines, known as the “Twelve Apostles” and the “Les Gouttes de Dieu” that his father described in his will. He has a competitor called Issei Tomine, a renowned young wine critic, who is his father’s adopted son.
Shizuku has never drunk or has any previous knowledge about wines, but with strong senses of taste and smell, plus knowledge gained from his time with his father, and with support from his friends and colleagues like sommelier trainee Miyabi Shinohara, Shizuku submerges himself in the world of wine and tries to solve the mysteries of the 13 wines and defeat Issei Tomine.

An unexpected act, for sure!
I read the series up to volume 12, and it's pretty good. I hope you will translate the entire series!

This is really cool, but does this mean Fakku will start to host a lot of normal manga translations? As opposed to being hentai-only?

The adventures of a wine drinking brat, oh great.
I already can see the clouds of wine-war coming up on the horizon as the sommelierian conspiracy unfolds!
Will the hero be able to get the 12 god wines to do.. whatever?
Will there be gRapes involved at some point?

Curious and Wondering
Ooh, Japan, you never ceases to intrigue me. Now a manga with a story with a generous amount of wine.
Not that I'm put off by it, it's more of unexpected, like finding a very relevant piece of advice from a fortune cookie.
But sometimes it takes reading one to know one. I'll read this one. Hopefully it gets me hooked on it after a few volumes.
BTW, the subtle renaming was nifty. Kudos.

Wow, I'm actually great that I got to see this. Now that Fakku is not only hentai, but real manga, more people would come to this site, perhaps even more translating groups ^_^

nicenice! I recommend that you should try translating manga shorts. And I'll try reading this Tears of God manga. ^^

I literally came in here to post this, too.
In any case, best of luck to those of you at LWB (LBB?). I'll be looking forward to this.

Many thanks for making the effort!
I didn't know this manga and I enjoy reading it now :).
But:
Seems to me that Fakku has a divers audience, but had its success ith erotic material. To now put casual manga on the frontpage seems a bit of a jump, in my book. And the current search system doesn't differentiate between h and non-h material, right?
Another thing that pops into my mind is the question of licencing issues which seem to me quite a bit more pressing when dealing with casual manga - niche wine manga probably excluded. Maybe that kind of negative thinking just comes about as it's dark outside atm :/.

You make good points porcelain_doll.
The system does not currently distinguish between hentai and non-hentai as it was never designed to. It's potentially a problem in the long run, but for now I don't think it's really that big a deal. It's not like people are going to be offended by LACK of tits and ass. If people enjoy this then perhaps Jacob will think about including a non-H section. But for now I think it's OK.
With regards to licensing, it's certainly a problem that may arise. As I've said, this manga is very popular in Japan, Korea and China but is unlicensed in America. That means we can probably get away with it for now, but the minute they start sending FAKKU legal notices I'll just take the stuff down. I have no desire to start into copyright wars with anyone over this.
