Ugh no don't go there. I've been there twice. It's not a "real" maid cafe, it's more of a cafe with waitresses wearing maid outfits. The girls are cute enough, but it's not the right atmosphere at all. Also the service was kind of blah, the first time I went they ran out of curry, it took forty minutes to get the check, and we had to ask twice.

If you want "authentic" maid cafe in North America, I'd recommend your local convention's cafe, those people usually put more of an effort into making it the real thing. I've worked at three of them, and I can say for sure that there is a lot more time and dedication to the "moe" feel in those than in Royal-T.

Not to trash on Royal-T, since they are a public venue and thus can't be too gimmicky, otherwise they'd scare away some "normal" customers.

I hate to be depressing, but I was in Akihabara a few weeks ago and it's kind of horrible to see that kind of stuff. You just get a bunch of tired, average-looking Japanese women in cheap maid costumes standing outside in the pouring rain trying to give out pamphlets to maid cafés to passers-by who aren't interested.

I took one and it was just covered with more average-looking women in cheap costumes, fake smiles plastered on their faces, Engrish (which did raise the mood) and an anime maid who was obviously put on to aid the otaku's imagination in imagining that he was going to get served by some kawaii girl who adored him, rather than some bored woman who dropped out of college and hates him and his stupid fat body.

Just sayin'!

Reality's a bitch, that's why I kinda don't want to go to Japan ever.
