The biggest reason I censor vulgar terms, is because (while many of them were once legitimate terms) they would have fallen out of use had their vulgar sense not been preserved.

A good example of this is the f-word. This term (contrary to folk etymological beliefs) comes from Proto Germanic, which is why the word exists in other Germanic languages besides English (though, in Dutch, for example, it is a legitimate word used by animal breeders.)

The word use to mean "to strike", but the Germanic derivation of the Proto-Indo-European word "h₂ŕ̥tḱos", for which a derivation exists in every other Indo-European language family aside from Germanic, was used as a taboo word, and (as a result of the aforementioned euphamism treadmill, the f-word, which had meant strike, now adopted the vulgarity of its predecessor.

And because only its adopted vulgar meaning survives, I no longer consider the word a legitimate conversational term.
