If they've been painted, try using a cotton swab, so you don't end up scratching or flaking off the paint.
If they aren't, wiping them down with a wet towelette squeezed dry is fine.

you could use a small paintbrush?? not like one of those artist brushes.. but a small painting one.. with a 2-3cm wide brushhead.. like the ones you use to paint door edges with..
i used one of those to clean out a laptop.. works like a charm.. the bristles are soft enough to get in-between things.. and can shift the dirt well rather than just spreading it..
