It was funny the first few times, they have started playing it on the radio stations here and i dont mind.

I hate that I like it, I feel like a dirty plebeian. I'm surprised it got as many views as I did, if I had never seen the view counter I would've assumed it would just turn out to be some obscure /v/ meme like galo sengan.

Gundam style is funny because Gundam adds awesome points to it. I saw that they had a screamo version of it. I need to check that out later. God forbid my reaction if it's actually good.

Here's a little background.

PSY was already a very popular korean artist. He was mainly famous for his music videos (or at least that's why I know about him) which often parodied other genres or archetypes of music and music videos.

In the same vein you could say "Gangnam Style" is a parody of all those hip-hop videos with their ridiculous dances (like shuffling or dougie) and random (often completely unrelated or unnecessary)background events.

The ironic part is that for whatever reason it became popular outside of Korea (it was only #3 in the top Korean pop charts) and now is pretty much what it was making fun of.

Probably because not everyone outside of Korea knows Korean therefore it's just a song that sounds funny to foreign ears.

Same reason why memes get annoying. People overuse it.

I dislike Gangnam Style. It's just a plump Korean dude singing and dancing. Yeah maybe the appeal lies in the fact that he achieves success, can wear flashy clothes and the dances like there's no tomorrow despite being a seemingly normal-looking dude. Maybe I partly hate it because it's not the type of music that I like, and it's more annoying to me than catchy instead.

And the damn parody videos. I wonder why some people find it funny, most of them are grating to my eyes and my ears.

I hate it and I will always hate it.
