I'm about 80% sure you're baiting for MAD, but in the off chance that you're not, here are the serious problems with the new DMC's. The main gripe on my end is the simplification of game play. Old DMC encouraged combo usage, switching between weapons and not using your devil form as much as possible. Additionally, the game was, in fact, quite hard to play, and getting an A combo was something to be proud of. A SS was basically impossible for the standard player. Watching (and playing) new DMC,I find that all of this is gone. The combos are single button and auto chain for you, you don't need to switch from one enemy to another, it just does it for you. Devil form slows everyone down and regens your health (making an incredibly easy game into a press BUTTON TO WIN) and worst of all, SS's are all over the place. They don't require any skill to get, and the game basically dose it for you.
Now, that's my gripes with gameplay. I won't bitch about story, which is honestly not awful. It's not great, but not awful. Also, the new dante level design is brilliant. I don't know where they pulled that from, but it's fantastically done.
The issue that I, and a lot of fans, have with Dante is that he's so incredibly different, and not in a good way. If you've played the old DMC games, you'll know Dante's popular for his ridiculous, over the top silliness. He beats devils to death with a motorcycle, punches a jukebox until it works, surfboards on top of missiles and eats pizza while he fights. Now, a change from this into a depressed, serious and violent man is already going to piss off a lot of people, but that's not the thing. If it was well written, i think I would have liked it. However, because this change was so clearly rushed, and made as an attempt to pander to as wide a market as possible, he comes off as forced. I believe that it is possible to have written Dante well, and that, with time and more effort new dante could have been welcomed by the fans. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and the new Dante is like a 13 year old Linkin Park fan's idea of cool. He punches random people, says "fuck" a lot and wears a leather jacket. As long as dialog gems like
Dante to demon: "fuck you!"
Demon to dante: "fuck youuuuuu!"
Dante to demon: "No fuck youuuuuuuu!"
*comence boss battle*
exist, then I think I'm going to be disappointed.
"People call me DONTE the demon killer, but you can call me XxXFuckBitchesSmokeWeed420GanjaMasta"

Theres a lot of things, im going to have to disagree with you on, but this is mostly because you seem REALLY misinformed and basing opinions off of the demo and not the actual game.
Th simplification of the gameplay, I can only partially agree with you on. However a change like this was necessary. In comparison to the previous games (except for 4 iirc), the controls were actually somewhat complicated. Th ease of use was slowly pushed in from game to game until DmC. In the first game, it was somewhat complicated to do something as easy shooting at something (I think you had to press a few buttons, or the button was in an odd spot). Obviously, things like need to change. Ease of use for switching weapons, where instead of navigating through menus or planni g ahead of time for what to bring for a level (and hoping you had a stage where a statue was available like in 3). They stopped that in 4 and made it easier to in this one.
And also, regarding devil trigger, you were ALWAYS ABLE to recover health, however the slow down is a new gimmick. But I guess that makes for the lack of increased attack speed that it boasted in previous games. I do agree that it is a little easy to get high in the game, HOWEVER I believe this is due to the movesets you have available to you. More moves means more stuff you can mix in for combos, which makes for an easier to obtain style grade
On top of that, this one follows 4's system (somewhat) for ability growth (red souls for items and white souls to use for abilities. The main change is that the other souls used build up into ability points, which makes it easier to get them.
I definitely agree with you on the story and the setting as I did in an earlier post.
Throughout the serie's life, dante has changed pretty drastically.
In the first, he was fairly plain and was mostly what we would now consider a generic action character nowadays. He had very cheesy lines and such, but you grew to like him because he was a cool character.
In the second game (as much as I hate to reflect on it), Dante was very hollow. There wasn't much to him, he was very silent, and he was even more generic than in his previous game. The only interesting things about him was his look and his mobility (which, as cool as it was, didnt have much use). He came off as overly serious and dry like he was getting on in years (I think based on the timeline for the games, this would be considered the last one canonically ( 3, 1, 4, 2))
The third one was as you said, young, wild and goofy.
In the fourth one, he was still a little wild and goofy, but he matured and showed fair traits from 1 and 3.
In DmC, this new Dante isn't completely portrayed in the actual game like he was in the demo. Yes, hes a little brash and violent, but he doesn't come off as totally barbaric and vulgar. Don't get me wrong, he does initially, but that almost quickly changes and he becomes a more likeable character in my opinion (can't really say too much without spoiling to some extent). But in comparison to the old Dante, I would say this is a more realistic or maybe a more current take on him.
Even with that in mind, im still a little hesitant to consider a new Dante. Like everybody else I still liked the old ones (sans 2), and I don't really think the series was in need of a reboot (yet). But I've also realized that if this situation was reversed, the fans would still react the same way.
Initially, I was displeased with the announcement of the reboot, but after playing I don't hold as much agression towards the game. It hasn't totally won me over, but its still decent for what it is (wouldn't pay full price though lol)
I actually played the whole game. I WAS wrong about the health regen, that was me rush text walling. Your argument is good, but I think where I disagree is in the "reality" of Dante. Dante's not supposed to be "real." He's over the top, silly, crazy and hilarious. I think a more realistic Dante is a depart from what I want. Even so, if he had been written better I think I might have grown to like the new Dante. The thing is, the writing is consistently bad. They try to make him have a meaningful transformation from jerk to more acceptable guy but it feels forced.

While I do agree that the change wasn't necessary, it still doesn't help that it still happened. But I would say, as far as stories go, overall, there isn't much you can still do with the old Dante's story, other than doing some sort of spinoff like an alternate story(which DmC would be an example of), or go further back into his past (which would be redundant), or focus on other character that was introduced (such as Lady/Mary, maybe Trish. Honestly, I could see myself getting excited for something with Sparda as the lead or maybe even Nero.) But even going with that route, the arguments would still be the same, "its not Dante". Nero wasn't exactly well recieved either (and I don't think he still is completely) when 4 came out too.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, holdupuholdupholdup...a DMC thread on FAKKU! and no one has asked about moi's opinions? I'm disappointed in the lot of you.
I haven't gotten the game yet, I claimed before that I needed some new DMC combat to challenge myself with, so eventually soon I'll start playing it, but not for the story sadly, screw the bad writing and the half assed final battle and ending, did NT really think they can pull what Capcom did in DMC 3 by copying and retelling one of the greatest DMC fights of all time?
First off, I'm shocked the game is getting good reviews, but I agree that the combat is way more easier than the previous games, thanks to the simple controls, but the lack of lock on irks me. I like my DMC combat tough as nails, be it on Son of Sparda in DMC 4 and Dante Must Die in DMC 3.
I've also heard Jump Cancelling is kind of clunky in this game, not sure if this is true, but if my JCs can't come out as good or close to Brea-sama's stuff, I'd be royally pissed off that I can't really enjoy my DMC combat like I did in the HD Collection and 4.

It's honestly not a bad game. I would still play it, if you like DMC. It's just disappointing, because it had so much wasted potential. Still....dat level design is amazing.

I'll still get it regardless of what reviews and people say. I'm still a bit skeptical about it, but not enough where it makes me say "No. This is just stupid. Give me my money back Capcom. Ninja Theory."
Also, it's not DMC until Dante gets impaled at least once during a cutscene and brush it off like it was just a small breeze.

I don't think Capcom has made a smart decision for about 3 years. Turned resident evil into a fucking shooter/action movie. Rebooted Devil May Cry and let Dante get turned into a little emo faggotbitch. Cancelled Mega Man Legends 3. There was that shit with save files for Resident Evil Mercenaries. They literally just shit on their fans left and right.

I just got the game myself yesterday and the only good thing about it so far is the combat, although it's been dumbed down greatly to a simpler version of DMC 3. I'm still trying to master the Jump Cancelling aspect of the game, which has been doing good thus far.
Mind you folks, I'm just playing it in the hopes to add to the trophies of my DMC HD trilogy collection, the story's likable to an extent, but I can't forgive NT for bastardizing my idol, Vergil, because of a certain scene of the game.
