I don't get the appeal of MLP. Is it the story-line? Is it the humor? Is it the happy atmosphere? Or is it just that you find the ponies attractive?

Idlers are usually a) underage players or b) noobs who can't complete to necessary achievements to get the item they want. When Valve made the auto item system, they pretty much killed the achievements' real porpuse.
Now they're just an e-penis-meter.

Only reason I idled at all was because the game lagged to shit on every official server and the only ones that were playable for me were Idle servers (Laptop's not a gaming laptop). Besides I liked talking to other players on the server who weren't idling, while getting some practise in with weapons I don't like using.

I don't play anymore but I can play it again?

I play TF2 almost everyday.
