Hey guys. Can you feed me information about Galil AR?
As far as I know Galil is basically an AK-47 that has been a bit revorked around gas system and fires 5.56 NATO, but I think there are some variants that go with 7.62 NATO as well. From what I can tell from the pics the internals look as AK does.
There is technical description of differences between AK and Galil plus what it does have in common with other rifles and also seems that it does have a 7.62 NATo variant:
Technical description.
Basically, the Galil assault rifle can be described as a modified Kalashnikov AK-47 design, and a detailed description of its functioning can be found in respective article at this site. The key differences between the Galil and the AK-47are as follows. The Galil featured a machined steel receivers of the original AK-47 rifles, but of slightly different shape. The AK-47-style safety - selectors witch at the right side of the gun is complemented by the additional smaller switch at the left side of the receiver, above the pistol handle. The cocking handle is bent upward, so it can be operated with either hand. The sights of the Galil featured a front hooded post, mounted on the gas block, with the rear diopter sight, mounted on the receiver top cover. Rear sight is of the flip-up type, with settings for 300 and 500 meters. Additional folding night sights with luminous inserts can be raised into position, which allows to aim the gun in the low light conditions at the ranges of up to 100 meters. The barrel and the flashhider can be used to launch the rifle grenades from the barrel, using the blancor live cartridges (depending on the rifle grenade type). The Galil ARM also features a folding detachable bipods and a carrying handle. The bipod base incorporates a bottle opener and a wire cutter. The standard folding buttstock is patterned after FN FAL Para, folds to the right to save the space. Some of the late production Micro-Galil (MAR) rifles also are fitted with the Picatinny-type rail, which allows to mount various sighting devices. Standard AR and ARM rifles can be fitted with scope mounting rail on the left side of the receiver. All 5.56mm Galil rifles are fed using proprietary 35 or 50 rounds curved box magazines with AK-47 style locking. M16-type magazines can be used via the special adapter. 7.62mm Galil rifles are fed using proprietary 25 rounds box magazines. Civilian semi-automatic Galil variants sometimes are fitted with10 rounds magazines to comply with local firearms laws.

Intresting. Thanks for the info. From the looks, we use the AK-47 type mags.

Just to add, the 7.62mm version is the Galil Sniper aka Galatz. It differs to the Galil in that it features a two stage trigger with semi-auto fire only and a threaded heavy barrel and are mainly issued with 20 round box magazines. The rifle is used more so as a support rifle much like an SVD or G3-SG1 than a traditional sniper.
Personally Galils aren't that high in my list, they certainly are in the top half though along with a whole motley crew of AK derivatives from all over. You can do worse than a Galil but you're better off with a more modern weapon which is why the IDF adopted the Tavor.
Also, being an AK derivative, the Galil loads its magazines front first rather than sliding into the magwell so it cannot use STANAG magazines without modification pr an adaptor. Because of that, I'd rather just find a Galil that loads 7.62 WP(Warsaw Pact not White Phosphorous).

Heh Val, you know 7.62x39mm Galil ARs are an article of mystery. They're not actually produced but people with their ingenious minds have done conversions themselves, most common is people taking an AK and giving it Galil parts in which case, might as well just have an AK. I've seen some pretty good jobs at making one from a 5.56 chambered Galil, guy made a custom barrel with modified bolt and the like.
Only Galils actually produced in 7.62 WP config is one in the ACE series which I don't like imo.
Also, I ended up taking gardening as a hobby. Already set up a nice plot in my backyard and planted some citrus.

Good for you.
Taste of your tea will rise a bit :P

What a shame, I don't like the ACE series much either, a Galil AR in 7.62 WP would've been lovely.
You plant a sapling or a seed? Either way, that'll take a while to grow, plant some other quick yielding stuff as well while you're at it.

Question for all, what is your favourite firearm developed from the '50s?
Hard choice because it's the time where quite a few of our modern firearms came into existence but for obvious reasons my favourite would have to be the AKM developed in 1959(cutting it pretty close ey?)
A revised version of the original AK-47 that went into service in 1949, she was intended to be a more cost effective model to mass produce over her older sister. One notable difference was her simplified stamped receiver which was approx. 1kg lighter to the AK47's milled receiver. In order for AKM to be as strong as the 47, they gave her reinforcement ribs along the receiver.
Interestingly, despite the AKM's bolt carrier being modified to be lighter resulting in slight difference of shape, it was interchangeable with the 47's. All in all, the AKM was successful in modernizing the AK47 and would enjoy a good near 15 years of service before being succeeded by the AK74.

Well I myself would've also picked the AKM or maybe AKS but for the sake of variety, I'll go with the Remington M870 since this is a firearm I know from experience is a winner.
Introduced in 1950(also cutting it close I see), the Remington 870 quickly became popular in Remington's series of shotguns, overtaking it's predecessor the Remington M31 a year in. The shotgun has found itself used for sporting, home defense, law enforcement and military service. A reliable and somewhat affordable piece many, including myself, would trust their life with.

I also need a nice military picture for my signature. Funny moments preferred where the soldier suffers.

Favourite firearm developed in the 50s is a tough question.
There are too many great weapons from that era I would love to get my hands on. Vz 58, G3, Remington 870 (though I might get Mossberg 500 which misses the quota by a year), M60 GPMG, Makarov, Vz. 52 pistol...

Yeah, I picked the '50s because it would've been a tought choice. I expected you to pick the vz. 58 though.
