Why in the hell to the english and their colonies use the term 'Matches' on the sports of football, cricket and baseball when matches are single genres sports like boxing and tennis? Shouldn't it be games or even events? Minus Canada because i never heard this from anyone there. I was watching Elementary.

You mean like when we say 'football match' for a single game? I really couldn't tell you, it sounds normal to me because that's what we say here. Also, what do you mean by single genre sport?

I'm not a fan of sport though so I'm not the best resource.

I use the wrong word. I meant like one on one or two on two. Boxing match/Boxing game vs basketball match/ basketball game. I dwell on words sometimes like my family use of 'The' when using it on specific place like Walmart or the name of a restaurant. 'I'm going to the best buy' vs I going to the store. Meh i overthink shit sometimes.

Yeah I can see what you mean, I don't really know though. Language is just like that.

I was discussing with my sociology teacher the other day (we're studying beliefs in society) why people say things like "oh my god" or "god knows" etc and how did they enter the language, and am I a hypocrite for using those phrases when I don't believe that any gods exist. I think most people say "oh my god" in the English language.

Why do you care? I can do whatever I feel like doing.
And I don't feel like telling people why I come back every now and then twice.

That kind of attitude is the cause of an incredibly large number of the world's problems.
