You know, army is not only for war, actually nowadays, most countries don't use armies for war, but to protect and help people.

Except for the US army, not really my good friend in that case, and some European countries, engaged in an armed conflict in Irak, Afghanistan and so on. Oh, I forgot Israel's army. My bad.

well, i meant that during that time tha US-Army was more popular for wreaking havoc in Vietnam (since some media openly showed what they have seen there, including Flamethrower and Napalm victims or the leafless forest because of the chemic agent they used for clearing their sight) then for work to help citizens

and sorry, if the ex-soldier comes through now, but their equipment was really shit. the M 16 was a plastic gun! the commies refused to take them from dead soldiers and use them. most probably taken because of the american way of haggling- we take the cheapest model and make it the standart.
The mechanism was too complicated to mainentance in the field (wich is important, very important. if you lay in 5 inches of dirt the last thing you want to happen is your gun malfunctionating), the scope needed a small screwdriver to adjust, the mechanism was easily damaged by dirt or the high humidity and the barrel was bent easily too the other equipment (Tools etc) just rotted away under their fingers.

second: the training- its one thing to train in open field, cityscapes or light forests. but when getting into terra Incognita, nothing of this will be useful. and they fought against solemn diehard guerillas. half of the US fell before they even had an idea where the shots came from. and they had tunnels
