Seeing how an Ironman anime is coming out, this is probably possible. I wouldn't watch it through for the sake of my childhood.

I love the Powerpuff Girls more than the anime version...And if Scooby Doo did become an anime, I think many Americans would be outraged with how they changed everything. Japanese culture is vastly different from American. What may seem acceptable to an American may not be in Japan. Things will be really different.
And I think people will be enraged at how the Japanese butchered their beloved nostalgic cartoon >_<
Actually, if you look in some anime they do their research. Take Chrono Crusade for example, it takes place in the 20's in America, and it sticks to the main historical stuff (like the ban on alchohol for example.)
