Top 3 right now?-Alter Bridge (all time best)
-Cloudkicker (technically, it's just one guy, not a band)
-Tool (on and off)
I just saw Alter Bridge live and I must say I was disappointed. Black Stone Cherry kicked their ass in terms of performance.
- 311
- Karnivool
- Tom Petty/Alter Bridge
That was a little uncalled for. -_-
What live version did you see?
I saw them just this year as they are touring with Black Stone Cherry. My friends were hyping them up as they saw them a few years ago and loved them. Myles was off key many times and forgot a lot of the lyrics. Only Mark was really getting into it. Brian looked pissed as hell. Overall disappointing. But I am willing to give them another chance when they come through again.

I'm gonna try to defend each part:
-Myles has one of the widest ranges in rock nowadays. It's probably agonizing to have to that all the time.
-Brian is a bassist. He goes through a lot. I'm a bassist too, I can tell. He looks mean anyway.
Try to find their Live in Amsterdam videos, and their live version of Kashmir. They are worth watching. At least, what do you think of their studio quality?

I am a bass player myself. I also understand that this was their fourth show of the week. But when I see Mark still loving every minute of it while Brian is doing nothing but standing in one spot.... it is a little perturbing.
As for studio quality... ABIII was not a very strongly recorded album. It sounds overly compressed and lacks a lot of lows. Blackbird is by far their best sounding album. They still have my support as I do enjoy their music. I just hope the next time they come around I can get a better experience with them. Though I can't really complain as the ticket was only $9.49.

There are people with bigger ranges that hit notes more consistently, and singing frequently isn't hard if you know how to sing (ie, using the diaphragm and proper techniques when doing harsh vocals), and bassists go through just as much as everyone else.
I do know what you mean, though. Sometimes they're just off. It happens to everyone. You ever seen Avenged Sevenfold live at Rock am Ring back in like, 2006? It's horrid. I mean, that's what you get at festivals, though. Tons of bands and no sound check. Only one of the Rev's bass drums was mic'ed, Zacky's vocals mic was way to high and he was out of key several times during "Burn it Down", the guitars were too low, Johnny Christ's bass was way to loud, and Shadow's vocals were too quiet.
Hell, I saw Alice in Chains back in like, 2007, and it was horrid. The sound was really muddy and bassy. I mean, it's not just them, though. Kill Hannah and Velvet Revolver had the same issues. I thought it was the venue, but then I went back two years later to see Rush (Rush isn't a band to have off days, though. They're like Dream Theater, always spot-on), and that was perfect, so it was just shitty sound.
