Folder Options help

My computer computer was on a fritz a couple of days ago. I had to re-install a few files, since I got a few error messages. Then my folder is always in list view. Also it might sound weird, but I like a folder sorted by name then I open the folder and want it sorted by date modified, but the problem is it reverts back to Name as I go back.
Sorry, I know that the last part is confusing, but I need help.
