AMVs, are they worth it anymore?

I remember a time when anybody could make an amv from whatever they wanted with whatever music they wanted on Youtube, myself included. Then Google got involved and shat on everyone's creativity and hopes and blocking vidoes people slaved over for days and sometimes weeks at time in just a matter of seconds. I get it. Copyright, Fair Use, blah-fucking-blah. These things exist and they're necessary within reason. However, I had so many ideas for amvs (I mostly did Kingdom Hearts ones) and now I don't even want to bother putting in the hours of work it takes to make these videos if Youtube is just gonna mute the audio or block the video or whatever. Are amvs dead or can only the people who's pockets are deep enough to monetize their videos and getting express permission from the copyright holder do them now?
