Anyone went through surgery?

I created one thread on this in sports and fitness but more injury specific. This thread is just for sharing the experience of a medical procedure. Mine was quite fun:

I got in the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital at 7:30, haven't eaten for 12 hours.

We were situated in a bed and I have to wear a hospital robe.

We talked to the anesthesia expert and the doctor before the surgery

At 10:00 they finally took me into the operating room and I got time to pull a dick joke on the surgeon, then I was out.

*Best sleep ever*

I woke up on my stomach (a "dick" move by the surgeon) on and inclined hospital bed, there was a huge cast on my leg (I had an ACL reconstruction and a meniscus repair) so I couldn't turn (and couldn't fart either). But then I felt drowsy and fell back to sleep.

After about an extra two hours of sleep I was fully awake,they gave me Ginger Ale and a turkey sandwich, and they've never tasted better than right at that time.

Finally, we went home to start my grueling first six week of post op



So what's yours?

Age five: fix my left nut since it was up inside me.
Age fifteen: Keyhole my skull to drain fluid from major accident. Fused my right arm and both legs from compound fractures. two and half weeks in a coma.
Age 24: Remove shrapnel from bullet in shoulder.
Age 31: Pin into my ankle

Mines might not be as good as yours but I'll give it a shot.

10 years ago at around 7 o'clock, I was laying on my stomach doing my homework and watching TV (cartoon network was the shit). Then I started to feel that my left testicle was hurting. Not sure why, I ignored it for the next 30 minutes until the pain started getting worse.

I informed my mother and thinks I'm joking. We then go to the hospital, after shedding a couple of tears due to the pain I was feeling, where I was told to change into the robe and lay on the hospital bed. We waited for nearly 4-5 hours.

Doctor comes up to me and asks where does it hurt. I inform him where it hurts. He assumes that my testicle actually twisted on its own, so he twisted back to normal...or so he thought. Then he twisted it back. Then I was told that it was probably an inflammation (or something. I don't remember). Then I left the hospital around 2 in the morning with antibiotics and the thought of a man violating me.

-Broken arm
-Broken leg
-Some kind of infection i had when i was a kid that almost cost me my right thumb
-Four wisdom teeth removed at the same time under general anesthetic (followed by two weeks of learning to eat like a bird lol)
-Tonsils removed as well as adenoids
-Several rips in my chest muscles (or was it my diaphragm?) after getting hit slightly below the solar plexus with enough force to make me black out before i hit the ground by a fist sized piece of something that came flying at me from a nearby explosion, courtesy of some idiots that thought it was a good idea to throw a WWII artillery shell they dug up into a garbage bin and set it on fire.

^ Those are only the injuries that required surgery. Ive had many other minor stuff like broken fingers heal perfectly well without surgery




So, was it a stray bullet or was it aimed at you? If its the latter, please elaborate if you feel comfortable with doing so

Haji with a AK. Sweeping a courtyard after we stopped someone from being killed by a relative and a little goat fucker pop a shot from a window. Hit the wall and it went into the shoulder strap. The fucker ran and got popped in a ditch. Wasn't much like a few shards. Not like my brother when he shot me with a bb gun. That took a hour and a box cutter.

Damn, dodged a fucking bullet, literally. You lucked out

The only surgery I have had to go through personally is having my compacted wisdom teeth removed (pretty boring I know). They put me to sleep with some general anesthesia. I woke up and they told me to wait a little bit before I stood up (hypotension and such). I disregarded this and stood up and then immediately feel to the ground passing out cold (--')>

Wow, lots of wisdom teeth removal here, but it's the general anesthesia part that I don't get, here in Vietnam we pull those out with cheap numbing cream, and a fishing string. *home dental removal FTW*

Cut pee pee.

I had my tonsils removed at the age of seven, and my fourth wisdom teeth removed at the age of fifteen. If I remember correctly, I woke up when the doctos were removing my tonsils.

I had to go in for minor surgery on my right shoulder two months ago after it got dislocated, after I woke up from the anesthesia my whole arm felt weirdly numb and it had to be in a sling for a month, that wasn't fun...I've still got the scar but it's barely noticeable.

I forgot i also was cut for Yahweh.

Age 10. Surgery to repair my mangled leg from getting hit by Milk truck...oh the irony

Ag3 17. Surgery to remove cancerous birthmark and another cancer later on to remove gangrenous tissue after massive infection.

thats it.

Age 2: Brain surgery to remove bone fragments from broken skull
Age 13: Back of my sinus removed to prevent me from suffocating in my sleep

Ah, so you two obviously have cleaner "heads" than a lot of people. (Ahahahaha.......that was meant to be funny)

Not as far as I remember.

Lower hernia repair. It definitely sucked, couldn't hold it after I woke, cue catheter.

Age:12 got a tumor removed from my finger.

When to the clinic, laid in a bed for 45 mins with a needle in my arm, saw the surgeon, talked to him for a few minutes, woke up with the surgeon telling me that it was one of the most interesting surgeries he's had in a few months.

First time I heard something like that, did he handed you a CD of the operation?
