Are noses taboo in anime or simply too difficult to draw? or
0
I see that in all the uploads of doujin and hentai in general that noses are completely ignored in contrast to the extreme amount of detail shown for the rest of the face. Why is this?
Is there a Japanese taboo that sees noses as taboo therefore consequently artistically minimized?
Are noses just too much of a chore to draw?
Is there no universally attractive nose?
Is it because Asian noses aren't as prominent irl therefore not reflected in art?
I'm not trying to be offensive, I simply do not know what the issue is with the tiny almost invisible noses.
So what's the deal?

IMO, noses are one of the most ugliest parts of the human body. I wouldn't be too enthusiastic about anime if they added more detail to the characters' noses. Less emphasis on the nose works out in the end and makes them look cute. However, there are exceptions where the artists has to put emphasis on the nose to show that the character is older and/or mature. I don't really mind that since it adds variety to the character design.

Pretty much your answer. Small button noses are both what is considered attractive and tend to be the norm. As anime/manga exaggerates the features, the small noses become almost non-existent.

It's pretty rare to find anime/manga that actually pays attention to noses. People usually have their own opinions on what is and what is not attractive, and noses seem to one of the harder things to agree on in regards to attractiveness. There are occasional exceptions like JJBA but then again JJBA is (in)famous for its flashy/weird artwork.

If you go back to older anime like Tenchi, Slayers, or Trigun you'll see the noses are a little more prominent.

In Japanese culture, small noses are cute. Noses are complicated when you draw a comic, making something more realistic doesn't make it more attractive to the mind. Take cute baby dolls and realistic baby dolls, isn't the realistic baby doll usually kinda creepy, and it's not something you can put your finger on why, just that your mind is screaming, "that isn't right!" Lastly, Noses really aren't too important with expressions, so not making them prominent doesn't have you miss much.

It's all culture/taste. I think the popular small nose style suits these media quite well. There's absolutely nothing stopping mangaka from drawing "correct" noses. Most skilled artists these days have studied human anatomy in order to draw their characters well. It wouldn't surprise me if just about every mangaka could do it.

Some anime have them, some don't. Like 623 said they are more prominent in older anime. Maybe they'll come back, who nose.

i feel like anime characters are supposed to be both perfect, and designed so that you can easily read emotion off them. Noses are both ugly, and do little to show emotion or feelings.

I guess smaller noses = kawaii? I personally find that a pronounced nose can be very sexy on a woman.

A good amount of this. Styles just change over time.
Although, because this is getting vaguely racial, some artists love to swap entire styles when they are dealing with an overtly foreign character. Like the russians in DRRR, the entire cast of Michiko to Hachin, and Armstrong from that one show.
If you want another point of reference, ask a Japanese person what facial features they focus on when distinguishing people? Because white people spend an awkward amount of time staring at one another's noses and talking about eye colour.
