Well I didn't really know what anime was as a kid I thought it was all the same thing, up until I was about 15. But I'd have to say my first anime was Lupin the Third. Oh btw Lupin the Third > DBZ.

Hahahaha! I love all of the comments declaring that their first anime was Pokemon. Makes me laugh and feel old as hell. LOL.
My first anime (though at the time I didn't know that anime was anime) was Fight! Iczer One, and that was back in the late 80's. It is still one of my favorites today. I love that era of animation and its style, you can't beat it. I later got more into anime with Anime Saturdays on the Sci-Fi channel and from buying them on VHS from Suncoast. Even though prices for anime on VHS were through the goddamn roof, I'd still buy them every so often. I think I still have the IRIA, Cutey Honey, Plastic Little, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Record of Lodoss, and a bunch more packed away in storage somewhere.
Here's a pretty poorly captured trailer for Fight! Iczer One:

The year was 1998, I had just gotten done watching my american action cartoons... most likely the Ninja turtles.. and I was flipping the channels when a I saw a cartoon of a certain man with spiky black hair and an Orange Gi chasing a monkey around a tiny planet while an old blue alien with antennae told bad jokes... 14 years later I'm still hooked.
Actually I think it may have been earlier... Maybe around '94...I remember... watching something... japanese... I think there were boobs... I can't remember... it was very japanese... I don't know... I don't even remember the story...

My dad is half Japanese so I was always into learning about my culture, but i didn't start watching anime untill I was 9.
I hated older stuff like Dragonball z and Inuyasha because the acting sucked so bad I couldn't stand it also the story lines were so dumb and cleshe.
My altime favorites that i started on were things like Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, and One Peice.

First anime was Unico in probably 1985 or so. I saw it on Disney.
First anime that I knew was actually anime Japanimation was 3x3 Eyes, sometime in the mid-90's I guess. This satellite station called Network 1 showed it and a lot of other anime that I can't remember (I wish I could find a list though cause it's probably all stuff I've seen now). I never watched the channel too much because they always had 1-900 commercials and it was awkward to watch that with my grandparents.

I saw my first anime at age 10, and it was Tenchi Muyo on Toonami. 11 years later, it still remains in my top ten favorites to this day! ^^

2-3, from what I remember it was before 1991 and I was still small enough to not walk so well. But I do remember watching Grimms Fairy Tale Classics on Nickelodeon around that time and being like "oh it's Japanimation!" So the knowledge was there lol! And no one calls it Japanimation except for the G's!

I think my introduction to anime was a long process. I was 5 or 6 when I first saw Voltron, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball, but I only caught bits and pieces of them. I didn't know the animation style was Japanese or that it was called anime until the Pokemon/Digimon years 98/99. I was 8 or 9 then. And then there was Cardcaptors and Escaflowne a few years later, but anime was still just cartoons to me. I think some of the first ones I saw in Japanese were Angelic Layer and Excel Saga, which led to Full Metal Panic, Evangelion, Trigun, and a whole list of others which was what got me hooked.
