I was somewhere in the age range of 10-12 that puts it at 1997 to 99. The first shows I watched were DBZ, Gundum and Tenchi Muyo. A little later it was Yu Yu Hakusho.
I only ever managed to catch a couple episodes of Tenchi Muyo as a kid unfortunately.

I chose in the 11 range for when I actually knew it was 'anime' and Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball Z weren't just 'cartoons' because I watched that stuff way earlier than what I knew what it was.

Well my first introduction to anime was from Pokemon which would have been in 1998, but I never knew it as anime. To me it was no different from other cartoons. I didn't have Cartoon Network when I was a kid so I missed out on Toonami. I didn't really get into anime until I was 14 (2004) when I saw Full Metal Alchemist for the first time. That was the one that led me down the rabbit hole. Hooked from the first episode.

Pokemon, Tenchi Muyo, Zoids, and FLCL, the one that really hooked me. Saw the 5th episode one night on adult swim with my best friend, was like "wtf is this it's awesome" and had to see more.

[color=#2e1a6b]Back when I was 12, I was a big fan of teen titans and similar action shows. I was randomly changing channels one day, and came across the climax of the 2nd Naruto movie. This got me into watching Naruto, which (after way too long) led me to watch real anime

Sailor Moon is the first anime I ever watched. I didnt know then, I had to be in elementary. Then later InuYasha really got me hooked in middle school.

My first anime was actually Voltron, but I didn't know at the time it was anime. Wasn't till the Toonami era that i realized what I was watching. Then I went to college and the rest is history.

Gundam was my first anime at 5 or so then Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Dragonball. Then at 10 I spread my intrest. At 17 I've looked back on all of the anime I've watch and it really added up over the years.

I don't count Toonami, I'm not saying it wasn't anime... but when I was younger I didn't know it was anime.. it was just cartoons to me. The first anime I ever watched was probably Dragon Ball Z or Sailor Moon on Toonami back when I was in 3rd grade so when I was around 10 years old. The first anime I watched and knew it was anime was Naruto when I was 16 in 10th grade. I'm 21 now and still watching tonnes of anime. :D
Anyone else feel that claiming Toonami shows were the first anime you watched is sort of cheating?
