Can you learn breakdancing at home by yourself?

Alright, this might sound hella stupid but hey, one's gotta try.
I've been doing calisthenics for a year by now and though the added strength is a great bonus, I was wondering where I'd use that strength. Then I remembered bboying, and I decided that I'd like to dabble in some of that.
Question is, can I learn how to breakdance at home via online videos or DVDs?

I mean you can if you want to, but you need to one; have the room to perform the more difficult maneuvers if you are doing head tricks, flips or spins. Two you need some essential items; may I suggest a beanie so you don't twist your scalp off, knee pads so you don't bust them into oblivion and a neck brace/med alert bracelet in-case of emergencies. Also need the right flooring/mat to work on; some people use cardboard boxes broken down or other's use mats, but either way I'd suggest something a tad bit softer then concrete or sandpaper to spin on xD
You can do this all at home if you want to, but honestly I would suggest looking for a class that teaches this because I know when I use to dance they tried to teach us how to break-dance and it's a lot harder then you would think. Sure people learn to do this shit on their own, but I know that you can fuck yourself up royally if you don't know what you're doing or are not use to doing something like that. A lot of us ended up pretty banged up if not hurt even with a professional teaching us (in the end poor decision on the dance studios part lol).
Just do this at your own risk and its good you have some muscle mass/stamina to try this, just take it slow and be careful. Do research on this before you try to go all Step Up on us lol.

Of course it ain't gonna be easy, I know that much at least lol. I always thought dancing was really cool in every form be it ballroom dancing or hell tribal stuff. One of the reasons that BBoying came to mind was because an old friend of mine from back in High School is now a bboy in Switzerland, and according to him he claims to have learned his stuff from videos and sheer practice, and so I thought if he could do it why the hell wouldn't I be able to do it as well.
Thank you for your patience regarding an arguably stupid question (that friend of mine isn't exactly known to be trustworthy so yeah...).

You can teach yourself anything if you put enough time and effort into it. When I first started guitar I started with a teacher, he didn't want to teach me anything so I used the internet and taught myself. Worked pretty well, but that's an instrument, yours is more physically involved.
Just make sure you have the space, and make sure to read up enough to where you won't hurt yourself doing it. Other than that I say go for it, learning something new is very rewarding and breakdancing is cool.

Yup, you can learn how to break by yourself. Just look up tutorials and such on youtube, they've got some great ones on there. You should start off with footwork and freezes. Make sure that you got the moves clean before you move onto something else though. You really wanna get a good foundation or else everything is just going to end up looking really sloppy.

Turns out that my Uni has a bboy society, though I'm not sure whether they'll accept complete newbies like me (I have ZERO dance experience).
Currently looking into toprock videos on Youtube. Thanks for the input people :)

Do you by any chance know where to find the stuff that your friend's using? Cause the videos that I found on Youtube aren't really helpful.

As long as you have a boombox and some cardboard, I don't see why not.

It also helps if you can get yourself an open room with mirrored walls. Its so you can work on form, but see it.
Good luck!
