Pay as in bulk shipping costs? On that note, how long does SMJ hold things? Still haven't used them, but it wouldn't hurt to know about alternatives that have a little more structure than Yokatta if a given order calls for it. SMJ has a US facility for shipping; they mail everything but the really heavy stuff to the US in a batch with other people's stuff, and then ship directly to you via cheap local mail. They don't like to bill you until they can estimate the total shipping cost to reach their US office, so US customers don't get billed until the item reaches their US facility. So with preorders, I don't get billed until they receive the item in Japan, which leads to me spending money I don't have most of the time. :P
SMJ's official policy is they'll hold stuff in Japan for 30 days and stuff in the US for 90, but in my recent order (which I just got today), some of my items had been stored in the US for about 5 months. SMJ is really easy to work with, and that's the main reason I continue to use them; whenever they make a mistake (I've had a few in the 3 years I've been using them) they're always willing to go out of their way to correct it.

Heh, yeah. Normally I clear my bed completely, but I didn't really want to move my pillows off the bed, so I was working with about half the space I normally use for these shots and it was probably my biggest order yet. I actually didn't manage to get everything in the shot, either; there's a stack of doujinshi under the Clesta stuff at the bottom left, and a few dakimakura covers were buried underneath others.
But it's a wonderful mess. :)

It's always fun getting a bunch of stuff at once, but I think I get too impatient and request shipment pretty much every other month. Just out of curiosity, is that the C82 Udonya tapestry? I've been looking around for it but it always seems to be more than 12,000 JPY.

I managed to pick it up for 10k, and it's well worth it.
Going to have to find the right spot for it, but here it is hanging up in the spot I usually hang up my covers to take pictures:

Hi. New FAKKU member here. Before I ask some of my questions, I'd like to give a little synopsis of me and my small dakimakura hobby.
Well that was quite a lengthy self introduction, aha ^_^
After her purchase, I refocused my money on my figure and artbook collections. Now I'm quite satisfied with Runa as my main hugging pillow (sorry Sena) and waifu (since she's of "original character design" I'll have to make due with my interpretations of her background/ personality). Of course I see stunning dakimakuras every now and then that I would love to buy- but have to refrain from doing so as my main figure hobby just won't let me divert some of my funds to daki's sadly.
However, there is this one pillow cover that I would love to get. I believe it is a carnelian cover, if I'm not mistaken. Her name is Shiro Tsubaki and was originally up for preorders a few months back. Since then she has been out of stock and I've been waiting for a restock of her.

My question is will she ever be restocked? I've seen her listed on Mandarake, but has since went out of stock as well. Will she be back in stock? If so, how can I purchase her? I have no experience with proxys whatsoever. I just want Shiro so badly, not just for me, but also for Runa- like an oneesan for her. xD
My first dakimakura was of Sena from Haganai last year, but I didn't have the money, or rather, will power (most of my money was reserved for figures) to throw in 9k for this pillow case of her on Hobby Link Japan. Then a friend suggested I try eBay, and sure enough I got her for a mere $35 USD. Now after numerous researching and examining, I am confident enough to say that the cover I purchased was of official quality or in other words, what I would've received anyway if I had purchased in full via HLJ.
Now just recently becoming an otaku at the time, I then went dakimakura-crazy and decided to buy more covers on eBay. I couldn't locate the same seller, but did manage find someone else who sold dakimakuras. Long story short, my new three pillow covers (at $35 apiece) featuring Subaru, Charlotte, and Charlotte (Mayo Chiki, Strike Witches, Infinite Stratos) were of Peach Skin fabric material- a noticeable difference from the smooth and gloss-like material my Sena was made of. Regardless, I was satisfied enough with my purchases, with Sena as my main hugging pillow and the others being hung as a tapestry or taking turns being switched out with Sena (although I'd really have love it if my Strike Witches Charlotte was of "superior" fabric material >_<).
Months have past (around September) as most of my exspenditures were back to figure collecting until I saw this one gorgeous original anime character dakimakura on AmiAmi that I just had to have. The limited edition of her that comes with a phone card
was out of stock, but luckily the regular edition of her was still available. Since then I have been extremely pleased with my new-found waifu. Her material being of superb 2 way Roica material. Seductively smooth to the touch and well worth the 11k price tag. Her features fitting all the criteria that I'd love in an anime girl.

Haha, yeah, I'd say about 99% of eBay covers are bootlegs; it's amazing that you managed to get a legit one there in the first place.
As for the Stylus cover, your best bet would be to continue to keep an eye on Mandarake, as I've seen her pop up in stock there at least 3-4 times (though you're right that she's sold out now, unfortunately.) It's always possible that the circle, Stylus, may decide to sell her again, but I wouldn't count on it. Your other alternative would be to keep an eye on YJA, but not only would you likely be paying more, but you'd have to use a proxy as well, and she isn't currently available (with a quick check.) Fantastic choice, btw; it's one cover I'd love to pick up for myself eventually and I'm sad that I missed the order deadline.

Spoiler:
Yeah, that's the one alright. Although I wonder what I have trouble thinking where I can actually manage to hang a life-size tapestry if I did decide to try to pick one up.
As for the Stylus cover, I actually haven't gotten around to opening mine yet; I sort of blindly follow my favorite artists and as a result get all Carnelian covers that get released whether they're released from Stylus or from Carnelian's own personal page. If the second version of the spring Carnelian cover is anything to go by there might be an alternative version coming out near the end of this year seeing as how this one initially was released this past January.

Haha, yeah; even though the dimensions of the tapestry were listed, I didn't expect it to be as large as it was. As it is now, it's covering up my Clesta Horizon tapestry and I'd also have to cover it up when I take any shots of new dakimakura covers, but I don't think I have any other place to put it. I'll probably just end up moving my Clesta tapestry and deal with the hassle when I take new pictures. Or if I'm feeling particularly ambitious, I think it would be a pretty cool tapestry to hang on the ceiling directly above my bed.
I'm the same way with my favorite artists; namely anko. It's a shame that most of their work is sold exclusively at events; I'd love another copy of their Miku covers, but I really don't want to pay 65k+ for their first Miku cover.

Nice tapestry, Shashin.
Welcome to the thread Saeko Busujima36 and Boreokookies. :)
I'm also pretty shocked that you managed to get a legit cover off of eBay for that price. Kudos.
If you need some more information on how/where to buy dakimakura:

Those recent posts should be enough to get you up and running. :)
Also, on a side note: There's a new Secreder cover up on Sengendo! Fuck yeah! :D
Oh, and there are only a couple days left if anyone wanted to order that Ryoko Okami cover from B&W Store. Just put my order in this morning.

My knowledge on Dakimakuras kind of lacks I guess you could say, but can someone explain the difference between "Smooth Knit" and "Polyester Twirl". Is it just that the latter isn't as good quality or something along those lines? Just thought I'd ask here for I'm currently got my eye on this Dakimakura I would love to get but couldn't understand why there were two of what seemed the same item?
Apologies in advance if this seems a silly question.

Nah, not a dumb question at all, man. I frequently tell people that materials are the most confusing thing in this hobby, and it's true. I'm assuming the cover you're thinking about buying is Cospa, since they're they only company/circle I know of for sure that offers Polyester Twill. Essentially, it's a cheap material to make a cover more afforable; I don't have much experience with myself, but if I recall from memory it's fairly rough and thin.
Regardless, I'd say with a good deal of certainty that Smooth Knit is the superior material, and well worth the slightly higher price tag.

I have some smooth knit cospa covers, and 1 polyester twill cospa cover. After getting it I resolved never to ever get polyester twill again as the difference in quality between the two for me was far greater than the 1k yen price difference. I mostly use my dakimakura for hanging/decoration rather than with a pillow filling, and in that regard, the clarity of the image on smooth knit is significantly better than that of polyester twill. Polyester twill has the problem that you can see the seams of the material from a moderately long distance which of course disrupts the appearance of the image printed upon it since you can see the underlying texture. From close enough up, this happens with smooth knit too of course (and for all fabric types..) but the difference in distance at which it is obvious between smooth knit and polyester twill is significant.
I won't really get into a discussion on their actual feel when on a pillow, since I generally just use a 2way tricot (or similar material) cover all the time now since they're just so much nicer, and thus really haven't enough experience with the 2 types in use on a pillow to compare them objectively. (cospa never has 2way tricot options, so obviously you wouldn't be able to get this particular cover in that material type)

Huh, I could have sworn that Cospa did at least one cover in 2WT as event exclusives, but you're right. I was thinking the Infinite Stratos covers (which were in 2WT) were Cospa, but they're Chara-Ani. Either way, willowywicca's advice regarding Cospa covers is the advice I'd listen to most. I honestly haven't purchased a Cospa cover in about 2 years, so as much as I like to say I'm knowledgeable on most materials, I'm not all that familiar with Cospa. D:

I see, thanks for the explanation. It has helped me gain more insight in this particular area of collecting. Yeah, it's a Cospa make I'm looking at and I'm sure to go for the smooth knit then. Thanks again :)

Anybody here have any Miki Nonohara ones? Looks like there's a ton out there, but it's impossible to see any good samples. Not surprising why if you know this artist haha, but I love it.

Without knowing the kanji for the artist's name, it's a bit hard to look up exactly what's available. It looks like they worked on that one loli game, and I know there are 1-2 dakimakura covers for it, as well as a few sheets.
