Dakimakuras anyone?

Ah, that makes sense. Through the cover makes a lot more sense than on the cover.

Considering how ridiculously inexpensive they are, I ordered one last night via DHL Express (along with an air pump, since a lot of people reported difficulty in that area and recommended a tool for inflation). Amazon.co.jp gives it mostly favorable reviews. If anyone likes, I can share its details once I get a better understanding of how well they actually function.

At first glance the tron seemed a lot worse, but I think the black colored hair exacerbates the problem by making snags extremely visible compared to the other covers.

Nope, since it's currently an event exclusive, anko didn't post a full sample image. I read that a mail order is a possibility in the future, so we'll see a sample image if it should happen then, but for now the face shot is all we have to go on. D:

Something pretty weird happened with the cover, though. All of the auctions were set to close around the same time (10-15 of them) the other day (the event took place over the weekend), and I had all of the auction tabs open before I went to bed. I was debating a bid on one of them, depending on what the prices were set to be, so I woke up about an hour before the first auction was set to close. Every single auction ID was dead/removed. Still have no idea why it happened, but I haven't seen any other copies posted on YJA since then.

I think that this is the first I've ever heard of them making dakimakura. Hell, I didn't know that there were still around. Either way, I'll probably wind up getting a couple of them. ;)

Yeah, it's the first set I'm aware of them doing, but it's to celebrate their 20th anniversary, I'm pretty sure.

Having been experienced with eBay selling for a while now, if they were all by the same user, it's against the rules to post duplicates. If you have several of something, you necessarily have to use a multiple-quantity option to prevent flooding.

It could have been other things, too, but that seems the most likely. Maybe eBay considered them "Adults Only" items that were not in the appropriate category, so they would all be removed as a consequence.

It wasn't on eBay, but YJA (Yahoo Auctions Japan/Yahoo Japan Auctions) and they were all different sellers. And their policy concerning adult items is actually pretty lenient concerning 2D items; as long as no boobs/genitalia are visible, most 2D items (dakimakura covers, posters, etc) are allowed in the general section of YJA. It's only when such things are clearly visible that listings are required to be placed in the adult section. It would also be odd to remove the listings for this infraction (which none of the listings were violating), considering the thousands of other listings that were untouched. It was strictly limited to this set of 10-15 items, all being sold by different sellers.

My best guess for their removal is that the sellers themselves reported the listings, as when I checked all of the prices were relatively low; much lower than is typical for an event exclusive cover to sell for. By having the listings removed, it would give them a chance to sell them at a higher price later. However, that's just pure tin foil hat speculation, and would require all the different sellers to be in bed together, which doesn't seem all that likely. Other than that, I don't really have any idea why all of the listings would be purged like that, since they didn't really fit the criteria I have seen for other auction purges.

Edit: Lolwut. One just got posted on Mandarake for 50k. The last two posted were at 22k (about right for an anko/Marks event exclusive) before YJA pulled all of the listings down. Mandarake is usually pretty good/fair in pricing, so I wonder if they were basing it off no listings on YJA, or what. Either way, this just got a ton more interesting and I really want to know what the deal is.

From the comments, it looks like Bandai strong-armed YJA into removing the listings. This is something almost completely unheard of in Japan, as far as I can tell, and I really hope it doesn't lead to any problems in the future (for anko or circles in general.) I hope the worst fallout from this is that the Panzer cover is expensive, but I'm hoping I can pick up a copy for a reasonable price. Either way, absolutely crazy.

Well hopefully the news doesn't spread too fast and you're able to grab one at a relatively low price because with that shit out there, I can only see it becoming even more rare and the price shooting up as a result.

The main problem is that YJA doesn't look like it will be an option. That leaves Mandarake and maybe K-Books. The first two covers on Mandarake were 22k and they sold in a few hours. The 50k one was added last night around 11 and took less than 12 hours to sell. Mandarake stores are all different, so it's possible that the other stores will price it lower when they get them, but it isn't too likely. K-Books, on the other hand, is pretty notorious for pricing really high right out if the gate. The best hope is probably anko doing a mail order, but if they're is a risk of legal problems, I'm not liking the probability of that happening.

willowywicca, you ever hear from Yokatta? Just seeing a few of your messages to them now, and that doesn't look good. Yokatta has always been a bit spotty when it comes to service, but that all sounds really bad. D:

Yeah they got back to me eventually (like.. 11days after my first e-mail). They did actually apologise at least then, but yeah, never go with yokatta if you want quality of service :p Did get a bit worried they were deciding to do a runner and disappear, but apparently it was just that a bunch of their preorders had all arrived so the warehouse was super busy.. and they only bothered to send an e-mail once the warehouse had prepped my items for shipping (and never to say that they were going to start prepping them or anything..).

Pretty sad to hear Bandai did that to the auctions, not a great precedant but hopefully it will just be a one off..

I have two, both limited edition, one of sousou from koihime I got it from mangagamer looks like these images I found online

And one of Konata from lucky star which I got from comiket 83, though I can't seem to find any images of it online... not to surprising because I think there were only ten sold (and I got the last one!)

Amusingly, the first picture you link is actually my photograph of the cover ( as posted here: http://www.figure.fm/en/post/31576/Dakimakura+Collection+2.html ). It was originally a Comiket 75 release.

@Kobun yeah it was a long time ago, like opened in november last year and closed pre-orders in february I think.

@Willow: Dang November to February, that's nuts! I can't wait that long. It's sorta' like when I used to buy more than one CD at a time (back when CDs were cool LOL); I'd usually listen to/favor one over the other(s). By my not waiting, sure it may cost a little more in regards to shipping, but it's always a nice, steady stream. :)
