Dakimakuras anyone?

Hey Evzlol,
Are you buying pre-filled dakimakura covers (actual pillows)? Those usually tend to have a minimal amount of cotton and the quality of the cover is usually pretty cheap...pending it's even actual cotton for that matter. I think that it may be synthetic filling. I can only speak from experience as I've purchased pre-filled BlazBlue and Doki Doki Majo Shinpan pillows that were understuffed, but I feel that they are like this primarily for vacuum packing and shipping purposes. Similar to you, I like my pillows to be stuffed to the point where they don't flop around like a dead fish.
Also, no need to apologize for anything, man. You went through 10 pages, and that is a valiant effort in my opinion. Especially considering that this thread can move pretty damn fast at times. Take for instance the following: when most of us here receive a new cover in the mail we will usually post a couple pics of said cover. I tend to go a bit overboard and post like a dozen shots. So it sucks when you go through loads of shots to find the ones you like, edit them, resize them, and upload them, only to have them buried by several pages of comments within a day or two. *shakes fist* But hey, that's just how fast this thread can move at times. ;) This is also why I've started to post shots from my latest cover in my signature.
Anyhow, you going through 10 pages shows some much appreciated forum etiquette. :)
EDIT: But as Shashin mentioned, check out Royal Pillow or you can hit up Bed Bath and Beyond for a 150 x 50 pillow. Should only run ya' $20 USD.
And also like Shashin, I too only have one pillow, and rarely use it, let alone toss a cover on it. I just like collecting dakimakura.

Heh, yeah, I definitely feel you there Kobun. Except I'm lazy when it comes to taking my shots, so I usually don't resize or anything. >_> Just rar up 20-200 shots and post it in the thread for people to look at if they want. I've done that for maybe 5-6 rars at this point, and I always wonder how many hits it gets. I doubt everyone bothers to download them, or if they do, go through all of my shitty pictures. :P

Hahaha. I'm too much of a perfectionist to do that. I'd constantly be looking at them and thinking "ah dammit, why'd I put that one in there?" ;)

I don't understand any of the finer points of photography, and basically go "yeah, that looks fine". I usually take the same shot once or twice, and then delete the one that didn't come out as well, but other than that I don't really care as long as what needs to be seen, can be seen. I should probably do smaller sets and upload them to an image host, though. As I mentioned, I'm not anyone ends up downloading it and goes through it all.

I don't think many of use here use filling, but actual pillows. I personally collect the cases more than I use them, and only have one shitty body pillow. Royalpillow is recommended by a few people in this thread; they're willing to custom make pillows to a specific size. They offer several different filling options, too. Not sure if you absolutely want filling over a full pillow, but you might want to shoot them an email and see if you can just buy their filling.

Hey guys thanks for the response, what I mean by filling is like a pillow to use to fill it I guess, my fault for not wording it very well! I bought like two pillows online to use and they didn't have like any filling to them >___>
I'll look through this site though thanks!
Basically, I have covers and need a pillow to put my covers on :P

Then yeah, Royalpillow is a fairly safe bet based off several recommendations from people in this thread. If you know the size of your pillow, you'll have to call them up to do a special order, I think. They have 3 default sizes for body pillows, but none of them are really tailored to the average dakimakura covers (which are usually either 150 cm x 50 or 160 x 50, but I have seen some variation.)
Edit: BluRay really recommended the Cluster Fiber material.

I feel you. That's pretty much the reason I haven't ordered anything from them yet either. Then again, it's because 100% of my spare income goes towards dakimakura covers as it is, I don't want to waste money on pillows (especially since I want to buy about 10 or so.)

>___> such a big market for the covers yet its hard to find good pillows!!! I hope they ship to canada

Ah, lame. Just checked their site and they don't ship outside of the US at the moment. :/

Is Peach skin fine (fine peach skin) a good material? I want to know your opinions since I MIGHT buy a customized one.

I can't really speak for certain, since I'm not 100% sure I own a peach skin cover.
But I believe I do own one, and I don't really care for the material. It's thin and smooth/shiny, which some people like a lot, but I generally don't care for it. I definitely prefer lycra/tricots to it, which stretch, have are a different feel of smooth, and are generally thicker. Still, it's entirely a matter of preference, but I'd say most probably prefer tricot.
In the end, buying a custom cover (especially if it's two images you like that aren't on an official cover), is a pretty cheap investment to see if you like the material; you'll have to see for yourself if you like the material, and it isn't too much of a loss if you don't.

I'm really enjoying just browsing the pictures lol
As for peach skin.. I have one of 2way as well as peach skin... the 2 way just feels worlds nicer than peach skin... go for 2way if its an option!

Peach skin is not a very good material, it's the basic cheap material that bootleggers/custom makers tend to go with. It's quite similar to polyester suede (which may or may not be the same as the SK suede Shashin was just talking about - there are too many minor variations of materials in this hobby ><), and as Shashin just said it's thin, smooth (but not the nice smooth of 2way tricot/roica), very shiny, doesn't stretch at all (if your pillow is even a tiny bit too big for it you're out of luck then), and very prone to creasing if you ever happen to fold the daki for storage or what not. I do believe it is a fairly resilient material though, in that you can safely iron it to remove the creases (though I have not tried). A lot of peach skin ones are also colored/printed pretty cheaply and can turn orange/yellow after a year+ (this last comment may no longer be true of current ones, but was in the past).

From my understanding, the material spectrum is (not necessarily covering all, but most materials) something like this:
Rarely used materials like Vera
Tropical Polyester
Peach skin
SK Suede - It is polyester, I'm pretty sure
Smooth Knit
Lycra (Roika)
2WT
4WT
Matsumoto Spandex (esentially roika I'm thinking, but we'll see)
Not necessarily in order of quality, just the materials I've seen used in dakimakura covers. Might be missing a few, but I think that about covers it.
Edit:
Here's a description of most of the materials used by legit dakimakura cover circles. You'll have to translate it (Chrome is helpful), so it may not be spot on, but it should give you a general idea of what each material is like.
As a warning, if you choose to browse the rest of the site, the circle does a lot of loli cover and such. But this page alone is SFW:

There's also Polyester Twill (as used by COSPA.. and only COSPA afaik...). Or maybe that was that Tropical Polyester you mentioned since I've not heard of that at all...

Nah, they're different. Forgot about the Polyester Twill; I think Polyester Twill is similar to SK Suede, if I'm thinking right. I know most of my Cospa covers are either Smooth Knit or similar to SK Suede in material, with few 2WT covers thrown in, since they weren't using it much (if at all) when I was still buying Cospa covers.
Tropical Polyester is that really shitty material I mentioned a few days ago, that one circle exclusively uses; very thin, very rough, and a terrible material overall.
