Dakimakuras anyone?

I didn't remember who exactly corrupted me, but decided to look as I remember it was someone from a MFC thread. Well turns out, it was you Shashin. You and BluRay were having a good discussion and you linked me to dakemakura and B&W as sites that sold to North America and then listed some good sites that required proxies. Funny how that works out.

I'm opposite of you guys though. With Mandarake I always wait and try to find out as much information as possible. Sometimes Google translate doesn't give good translations and you see the word "damage", but you aren't sure what's damaged. Is it the box? The figure? etc. So I usually end up asking others in cases like that, but if I don't see damage I'll usually go ahead and order.

I'm not a fan of second hand items.

And I am not a fan of second hand items either. Much more so with covers, since, it's just wrong to get a cover that was "used."

Typically, Madarake declares an item's condition whether it's has a damaged box, missing certain stuff or not having a bonus.
As on the topic or 2nd hand covers,I'm not really keen on those either but I have bought 2 2nd hand ones because they were cheap and I could no longer find them in the market. Anyway, it's nothing some dettol and Lint remover can't settle.
I think I'm in the deepest part of hell. Dakis maybe my main concern but I'm a crazy when it comes to video games, as in not really Very hardcore gaming but I like to buy and collect limited editions of video games and consoles.
As a result, I've got like 3 PS3s, 4th one coming end of this month, 4 PSPs, 2 3DS and 1 of every other handheld/console including Vita.
Money seems to be flying away...

Hahaha! That's cool that you guys all found one another here. Same thing happened with DFan and me: we both came here from the Yahoo! group - he came here and then I stumbled in a short while after. Funny thing was, I hadn't spoken to him in close to a year or so. Then we started chatting again on MSN and I found the site/thread while doing some online searching. Then after I registered and started posting in this thread he sent me a PM asking if it was me. And that sorta' brings us up to speed.

Hmm, I think I just ended up here at some point while searching for real pictures of dakimakura (as opposed to preview pics). I did encounter Shashin before on Tier's tentaclearmada site, where they were talking about dakimakura and mentioned the blog which was when I first discovered it. I was only lurking though and didn't participate in that conversation so he wouldn't know about it ^^. Think that was some time in early 2011.

Haha, yeah. I saw your first post on the TentacleArmada a few weeks ago after you had been posting in the thread for awhile, and I was like "huh, I wonder how long he's been posting and I'm only now noticing it."

I've been a member/lurker of Fakku for a few years now, and only eventually signed up when I wanted access to the User Uploads section. There were a couple of dakimakura threads in random, so I didn't want to create another topic. I posted in those for awhile, but they had an overly negative tone, and that's around the time I found this thread (about 3 pages in.)

As for getting into dakimakura covers, it was Tier over at Tentacle Armada that got me into them. He's done a great job of posting reviews for something that seems more than a little hard to review. It was a combination of his Tony and Mafuyu reviews that made me take the plunge with my Shizuku and then it kind of circled around; I brought his attention to a few of the covers he later bought and reviewed which just made me want to buy them even more. And then I just kept buying them.


On the subject of Mandarake, there have been only two times I've been disappointed with the item quality. I ordered the BRS Cannon figure when it was still hard to find, and then they emailed me saying the box was open and not sealed, I got it, and it was dented in pretty good. The other was a Hellabunna doujin collection (from the Ayane/Kasumi series) and it absolutely reeked of smoke. Other than that, every other item I've purchased has been in like new condition. The exception being 2 of the 4 covers I recently ordered, which had the dreaded "small pain" text. But they turned out fine for the most part; one had a thread loose and the other had a small dirt stain that handwashing should clean.

Well, the sad thing is nobody found me whatsoever. When I did search out for threads out in the net I did saw the yahoo group (I assume) where the group starter was into collecting tohou dakis. And by then, it was already almost a year dead.

And now we're all one big happy family. And that's the important part, yeah? ;)

Also, I was thinking it'd be cool if we had a shared Google spreadsheet with all of our wishlist itemsm etc. - rough notes and research on covers and other wanted goods. This way we peruse others worksheets and see what they are on the lookout for and if we come across it we can notify them here or simply add the URL to their worksheet. I can create this if it sounds like something that you guys would be down with and would use. And for personal identity sake, you can always make a BS Gmail account. ;)

That's not a bad idea. Though in theory it works out really well, my list of covers I want is more scattered in my head than anything. There are the ones I want to order that I know on the dakimakura blog (still have preorders open), anything from given circles, and a few I would recognize by pictures but couldn't necessarily think of off the top of my head.

I actually probably have most of my "must haves" that I had to track down for months (seriously, one cover took me about 4 months to get after I first saw the image), and now it's just moving to covers I may really like, until I come across another "must have".

I'm down for a collective spreadsheet, workspace, board of wished covers.

How to use pearltree.
Once you log into the account, you'll notice a sort of central "tree" named fakkudakimakura, and then it branches into other trees, like "Users" and "Websites"

On the top left corner is the home button, which will bring you back to the main pearltree: fakkudakimakura.

You can click on pearls to access them. Or if you hover your mouse over them, you'll see a small little + sign appear. If you click on that you can see what's inside without navigating away from the main tree, fakkudakimakura.
I highly recommend you use the + button as it makes it easier to multitask.
On the bottom are +pearl and +pearltree. +pearltree basically adds another branching folder of sorts where you can place your pearls. pearls are the links you would save. So for instance:

I have a pearltree: Users>BluRay> and then I can add pearls here with links to my wished dakimakura.
Or anything you want really. Could even be a website for puppies if you want. :3
You can edit your pearl info by hovering over the window in the corner and changing the title and whatnot. Feel free to change your wished items anyway you want.

I've got it set up with a few users right now.
Feel free to add yourself if you aren't there and want to be. And feel free to add more pearls to the "Website" pearltree.

Since it's collective, feel free to edit anything. Just try not to delete any user stuff, m'kay? :3

I'm not sure how effective it'll be though, since it's really based on links. Maybe if you have a dakimakura that you happen to have a picture of, but no real info, you can always just upload the image, and put that link as the pearl for your wished daki.
I guess you could put this into the "daki info request" tree and whenever other users log in, we can figure it out and put our own info or link other pearls that have that info.

I don't know if it can do multiple users, but if it can, then all the better....

AND, me and Shashin were testing it out. Multiple users can be logged in at once, so we can see things changed live.

Speaking of bringing over to FAKKU, I have to credit willowywicca for that. While my addiction started on MFC, I seen willowywicca posting on Figure.fm and loved the collection and had chats here and there when he recommended this thread/community to me.

Funny, how everyone who had something to do with me getting into dakimakura is here.

I'll have to check out that PearlTree site, have never heard of it. I used Google before when I was in university for projects and it had a decent system, but I'm interested to see how PearlTree performs and what it does. A shared list definitely seems like a good idea to help each other in the community.

PearlTree is pretty cool so far. Haven't added too much, just created a list for myself with preorder deadlines. :3

Eh, I'm not too worried about it; I doubt anyone would actually really stumble onto it, and we're all going by our username. So it's nothing they couldn't find here if they tried anyway.

Yup. Just the way it is, they'd have to search really hard to find our pearltrees, as in they'd have to know where to look.

Added a photographs pearl to let us keep links to our pics in order, rather than losing them in this thread.
