Dakimakuras anyone?

Just messed around with a bit more and I was able to get Marks and Muranomina to work, but not Ankokoubou. Either way, it's a fairly cool functionality, and definitely useful for people just getting into things. But for the most part I'd still think it's probably easier just to google it, even for those new to the scene.

Just got my 3rd miku in. Thank god it isn't that shitty material they were using.

You're kinda late, both pre-orders are closed and for Totori, it has been quite some time ago.

Both are Evening Call covers that are no longer available for preorder. Neither has released yet, so they aren't readily available yet. The 2P one had a limited release at an event, so it's its technically possible you can find it at auction, but not at a high price. Evening Call sometimes gets some extra stock in, but it's never a guarantee. That will be your best bet regardless; checking in after their release. Otherwise, it's a long shot checking YJA to see if they get any in and then a matter of how much of a premium people are charging.
Yeah, I got the magnet and book with my IS/Homura order too. The pouch is censored too, which I found amusing. But I don't think the book being censored is all the strange, especially if the printer they use is larger scale.

If only I could read Japanese so I could figure out more easily the release date, then just hope I can find it in time. It sounds like it'd be much more convenient to simply preorder.

The problem with that is Evening Call very rarely has extra stock, but I'll look into it for you (and I actually have that Touhou cover on order and their Mimi from the Atelier series.) I know that the Touhou cover is supposed to release in April and the Atelier covers may have released already. The release dates are easy enough to gather on their site, though.
Just working with a random cover available for preorder:
å“å：カイãƒæŠ±ãæž•ã‚«ãƒãƒ¼
First line is the name of the item (Kaine dakimakura cover)
Second is the material: pearl roika
Third is the size (easy enough to figure out)
Fourth is artist
Fifth is preorder range: March 18 - May 27th. The kanji after the 3 represents month and the kanji after the 18 represents day.
Sixth line is when payment is due by.
Seventh line is the rough shipping date. In this case, I'm pretty sure it's early June.
You can have a proxy service put in a preorder for you, however, Evening Call will deal directly with you and they take Paypal. You just need to sign up for an account, and we can guide you through the process easily enough.
Edit: Just pulled up the shipping dates for the two covers. The Touhou cover is set to ship mid-late April and the Atelier cover is listed as end of March- early April. They've been a bit behind in their shipping lately though, so I wouldn't be surprised if those dates were pushed back a bit.
You can keep an eye on their site; the groups of covers listed on the left mean a few different things. The top group is covers that are closing for preorder soon, there is sometimes a middle group with new covers, and the bottom group (which has the most) is the covers they current have some stock of. If you see either cover pop up there, that means it can be ordered.
On a translation note, I use Google Chrome. I've gotten pretty good at interpreting stuff over the years even though I still can't really read Japanese for shit, but Chrome has an auto-translation feature that can be tremendously helpful.

Okay, that helps a lot, thank you. I guessed correctly the size and preorder range (size was pretty obvious), but I didn't have a clue for the rest.
I appreciate that you'd look into if they have extra covers in stock, but if it's already released, I think I'm SOL. I don't even have money available as of now to get a cheap bootleg, were I to stoop that low. A little disappointed since I really wanted that Totori one, but there isn't much I could do about it.
And really? Wow, when I came across Evening Call, I loved their stuff immediately. But, once again, can't read Japanese, so I'd need the help going through the registration.

I don't think the Totori has been shipped yet, but I'll let you know if I hear anything. They're shipping my Mimi out with the Touhou cover, so I don't think I'll know when she's in stock, but if I hear anything I'll let you know.
And yeah, it's a recent change. They previously had an explicit statement on their site that they don't ship internationally, but when I commented on a recent site redesign and that it was a shame they didn't ship internationally, they responded that they were willing to. That was maybe 2-3 months back and most of us have an order in with them now, but haven't had anything delivered yet as far as I know. I've been following their work since the beginning though, and TID is probably one of my favorite dakimakura artists.

It makes sense for these companies to ship internationally as it vastly broadens the amount of income they can generate. They can get a lot more people purchasing instead of just locals. I'm really glad more and more companies are opening up internationally since it helps us out immensely.
Shashin is the perfect guy to help you get your Evening Call account setup. He helped me just recently and I just paid for my first order with Evening Call (not through a proxy) yesterday and they have confirmed payment. Definitely is more enjoyable having your own account and not having to rely on a proxy.

It does make sense, but it's unfortunate that a lot of companies don't like dealing with foreigners. I mean, look at eroge companies like AliceSoft; they have tons of foreign fans largely due to the translation projects for their awesome games (that are actually games, no less!) but they still completely block foreign access to their site unless you use a proxy. I'd imagine circles are in a similar position, especially given that some of the laws in various countries don't take too kindly to loli and other porn. Though a small subset and not all countries, it's likely easier to take a "don't sell at all" stance than it is to pick and choose which content is available where.
Still, it's definitely exciting to see more and more stores opening up with an open mind and willingness to sell to their foreign fans. I'm definitely happiest about Evening Call making the leap, because they're easily one of my favorite circles (possibly only bested by Ankokoubou) and they put out a lot of things I'd buy, so being able to purchase directly from them likely saves me more money in the long run.
And other than the obvious benefit of not having a proxy, the other cool thing about having an account is you finally get to take advantage of member rewards. Though not really the biggest benefit, a couple bucks off your next purchase with every cover is definitely a cool bonus. And for those who plan on buying a lot, it can add up in the long run.

I gave in, I'm actually going to start collecting dakimakuras. Just a few questions, how big would my package be if I were to have a pillow delivered? I also read somewhere in this thread about cleaning the covers, and recalled that someone said by hand. What are some of the ways to wash the covers without damaging it? Last one, I actually bought a "pillow case", just for the regular size pillows, and was wondering how you would wash that? It is polyester suede. Sorry if it isn't a dakimakura. But to be honest, after buying that, that was what got me into the world of purchasing dakimakuras.

But to be honest, after buying that, that was what got me into the world of purchasing dakimakuras. 1. The delivery of the actual pillows would depend on where you purchased them from. If you're in the US, there are quite a few recommendations for Royalpillow; they're reasonably priced and have good quality pillows according to the people who've purchased them. I believe BluRay say they fold them, but doesn't condense them further than that. If you ordered a true "dakimakura" from AmiAmi/HobbySearch or other Japanese retailer, they usually put them in a bag and suck out all the air, creating a package that can easily fit in a fairly small box, but is quite heavy (and very expensive to ship.)
2. I'm not the expert on washing as my collection is more for the fun of collecting than it is my covers actually getting any use. Others can probably give you a better idea of how they wash them, but I'm pretty sure it's a basin of warm water with a mild detergent and then hang dry. But as I said, someone else can probably give you better tips on that.
3. No worries that it isn't a dakimakura cover, man. I have a standard pillowcase sized cover or two myself and I've posted them in this thread. If anything, it's cool that it got you into larger scale things. As for the washing, I'd imagine it would be similar to a dakimakura cover, so I'll defer to someone who has more experience washing them.

Thanks for the reply, sir. I will be waiting for others to reply. I'm planning on to order it from Amiami. This question might sound dumb but, if they suck the air out of the pillow, how are you suppose to get the air back in? LOL. Also, another curiosity, I noticed that there are different materials for the daki pillows, which are the best?

Whoa, looks like I missed out on a few pages. ;)
Yeah, BlinkXPoke, I have had my eye on that first Evening Call cover for months now...since last Nov/Dec. Put in an order for two of 'em as soon as they went up. I also placed an order for an Alice (Queen's Blade) and Dizzy (Guilty Gear) cover as well. Those four covers nearly wiped out what little money I had left in my checking account. They should be coming in next month...finally. :)
Also, thanks to DFan I just put a bid in on this lovely lady:
Spoiler:
I have been buy and collecting dakimakura covers for a few years now, but I don't think I was really that into dakimakura at the time this one was released. So I'm pretty happy to be able to pick it up pretty cheap...even though my wallet is still pretty sore from recent spending binges. And thanks to Shashin, I'll probably wind up getting the twins from the B&W store too. Goddammit. ;)

That question gave me a good chuckle. The pillow is just put into a vacuumed sealed bag, and the air is sucked out - similar to a bag of coffee beans. You'll just have to puncture/cut open the bag, and wah-la, normalcy restored. However, your pillow will have some wrinkles that probably won't be coming out anytime soon. I'll check out your other post and provide you with my two-cents tomorrow, but I will say that as far as materials go, I perfer two-way tricot (2WT) and the microfiber material that the HarthNir covers are printed on...can't think of the name/term at the moment. I need to go to bed...tired.

As already mentioned, the pillow is vacuumed packed. Which in turns compresses the cotton or microfiber(depending on the type of pillow) inside of the pillow. When you take it out of the bag, air will slowly fill up again and your pillow will expand to it's original size in a couple of minutes, the creases will clear off after several uses. Or if you get a smooth skin based pillow like A and J's there will be no creases or wrinkles.
The best way to clean is definitely by hand. And do not ever use warm or hot water, although I havn't seen it happened before. But it has a chance that it will make the colors run from your cover. So you'll need to be cautious.
And if there's any spots on the cover, you should turn them inside out and rub detergent on the spot because stains will normally sink to the bottom of the fabric.
Lastly, be careful of your fingernails if you keep them.Use rubber gloves if you have long finger nails toavoid snagging and creating a loose tear.
In regards to to the types of material. Most people would agree that the various 2WT out there have the overall best feel. Followed by Roicot.
My personal Ranking.
Bear in mind some of these materials have unique variants like Pearl Roicot.
2 way Tricots
2 way Roicots
4 way Tricots
Satin
Smooth Knit
Vera
Peach Skin(Bootlegs exclusive material)
Sk Suede

Yeah, I have found it better to hand wash your covers if possible. And be sure to use room temperature or cold water.
Zengar, regarding the sinking of stains on fabric and to treat them from the inside out: Now that is some straight up sage-like advise.
Also, I think I'll just keep my nails trimmed and well manicured as opposed to wearing rubber gloves. As if collecting these things didn't already put us into a "unique" circle, just imagine having to explain that to someone. Heh. ;)

I have a question and please disregard this if it's against the rules, but what are some good sites to buy these types of items.I have some money I usually just burn at cons, but at this point the ones I go to start having the same products with only minor changes.
