Do people treat you weird for liking Japanese music
0
Yes, they do.
Which is why I try not to let people find out how much of it I listen to.
I did get one of my friends into it though, just a little bit.
My parents know, they say nothing about it though and just let me be with my interests.

Some do. Some calls me a lowlife for watching good works like Clannad, Angel Beats!, AnoHana. My answer:"You know nothing about good pieces like these."

Depends on the person. Sometimes I get an odd look and others are like "OK, cool." I don't really care if they like it or not since I'm playing it for me to listen. Most of the time I listen to my music with the headphones.

On rare ocasions that I let someone listen to my Japanese music, I get the WTF?? reaction. It's the same with any type of music I listen to, so it doesn't bother me.

My friends tease me, but I don't think they find it wierd or odd.
They even like a few songs I have shared with them.

yeah they do treat people weird here in PH if they liked japanese music, and they ask me, why i like japanese music and not korean. cuz most of em people watch PV's or korean stuff series and movies and etc. though i must say its in the matter of what just comes to your liking.

I've been dealing with it for nearly a decade. It's safe to say that the common American will always be confused or "weirded out" if they heard a song that isn't in English. Sadly for them, I don't give a damn. I'm not the kind of guy who would do the stupid thing of blasting Japanese music out in public to get attention, but I always blast it in my car.

Actually, anyone that has heard me listening to or singing it is more intrigued than anything else. That's the most fun b/c then you might be able to introduce them to a band/singer you like. This is a lot easier for kpop than jpop, but still people usually like either ❤

Actually this doesn't happen to me because I convert my friends into liking anime and stuff and pretty much only listen to J-pop with headphones or at home.

Most of my friends get high by listening to rap songs. For me on the other hand, rap songs have no appeal whatsoever and Blood Stain Child or Chemistry and even Vocaloid trance songs are MUCH better. Everytime I listen to Miku my friends back off. WTF? Its just music so what? I would never spend a single penny on Western Music

The people I'm good friends with understand that I have a unique taste in music, those that don't just need to be more open minded or be more respectiful
...if that doesn't work and they still piss you off, just throw a kunai at them
...if they live and have big scary friends, run, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

My friends no! But sometimes while walking around my college campus or hanging on the bus I get some interesting looks 0-0 Though I'm glad that some of my classmates seemed to have accepted me when I walk in the class listening to Touhou. xD

I hardly have that happen to me, because no one knows what I'm listening to unless they want a go at the headphones. If its someone I've just met then sure, I'll be treated like an outcast of some sort, but my friends are a great bunch. They are all open minded, and I've gotten to slowly coax them in with something closest to their favourite genre (X Japan gets the medal heads every time), and spread out from there; just showing the diversity that exists within J-pop. Its why I like the genre so much, it isn't just conforming to what is expected to be popular, but all this great music that exists and is popular.
My father is probably easier to please than others. If he hears what I'm listening to (this goes along with if I'm watching an anime on the TV) he'll say, "Is that, that Japanese stuff?" to which I'll simply reply, "Yep."

yes this happens all the damn time, like some times ill be listening to some music and ill turn it up super loud and people will be like "what the hell are you listening to?!?!" when i was younger in high school when this happened i didn't really tell them and just played it off cause I didn't want to appear weird to them. one example of this was when I was listening to asterisk by orange range people would look at me puzzled. now I just dont care what they think, it good music even if you cant understand it, which a lot of the time makes it even better. hell that how I learned most of the Japanese I know. its about the music it self and appreciating the instrument and rhythm.

Not really offended, since they are just missing out some of the best music in the world and I don't feel inclined to inform them any further.damn right they are really missing out on the best music the world has to offer i for one listen's to japanese music all the time i don't listen to anything else and i take huge pride in it i also feel that some of the lyrics i read are normally better than any american or what ever music the world has i mean japanese music's are just so deep and poetic that it makes other music sometimes look bad it's that damn good who ever doesn't listen is totally missing out. I think the common American will always be confused or "weirded out about anything.

Well most of my friends does not really care about what song i heard lol as i also heard some English song, Indonesian, Italian, mostly Japanese, some Chinese and Koreans, even Indian song lol.
It is just the matter of open minded. Like they ask me sometimes do u understand the meaning of the song? I just easily replied if the song is good do we even need to understand it as music is all about feeling. As long as the song touches ur heart and u feel compatible with the song u won't have any problem listening any songs u like.
