Do you think that anime helped your relationship?

Here's an example of what I mean by this.
An anime genre I'm a huge fan of is Romantic comedy/ harems. Going off of how the main guy always acts towards the girls of said harems and gets in those vanilla situations at times has always stood out to me. SO! In my relationship in real life I tend to sometimes act kind cheesy, but yet also very manly/gentleman-like like how the guys sometimes act in animes.
Apparently my girlfriend likes that type of stuff considering she likes anime herself.
Am I the only one who gets their material or habits from anime??

Anime, books, films, and pretty much anything we experience can shape our personalities and influence us to a degree. There are some pretty solid morals held within some animated works and that can be kept and applied in every day life. So in a sense you can say anime can help out with something such as a relationship, but overall you are taking the traits you find appealing within something you have viewed/experienced and putting it into practice for your own personal benefit (and for others if that is your desire). The only thing with this is I don't personally view any form of content being the sole basis for a person's personality and actions. Rather it is just one of many aspects that further influence and soldify what you already are and desire to be.
I guess for me, I've always loved the morals that anime can hold (honestly this could apply to other works of various kinds as well). I don't believe that they created the person I am today, but they definitely reinforced my beliefs and influence my actions to a degree.

I've done this accidently a lot without trying back in highschool, I've always looked up to the guys like in my visual novels and anime that were clueless and just simply nice. It worked out to an extent, I made friend easier by playing into a role, and got girls to like me by being generally nice, but at the same time it was generally harder to get close to people as well. They enjoyed my company, but my personality/persona seemed like a weird front for them. Being overly oloof and clueless really pissed some of them off (also, I'm one of those people easily influenced by what they read, was in the middle of a relationship while reading love hina, paranoid as fk. ruined everything.)
Now I usually run rl sorta like a Vn, I make choices still to get me in the general area of where I want to be, get close to girls when I can or get to know people. (most of the time, I just slip into that mode and keep clicking the left mouse button in my mind to skip through text.)
tl;dr, use at your own discresion, from personal experience don't let it influence you too much. But then again, everyone is influenced by things they do as well.

I think its depending on the situation your in, sometimes what we see in anime and actually doing it might surprise some girls some might even feel that your really sweet, but sometimes it might backfire on the whole situation, there are some guys I know that are hardcore romance and vanilla anime but from these series some of the girls love the main character without much effort so some guys(not all) thinks the girls are the same way
last week my fren has a guy confess his feeling for her, of course before confessing he took her out a few times but just when my fren said she wanted to be friends he go on frenzy rage, I think it's because he thought that this would be enough to get her heart, so I feel that some guys will get the wrong impression how girls are, this is only my opinion

depends on which degree the anime influence you. I had a friend who dated this guy who was too cheesy like he did ALL the things the shoujo hero would do. It was too much and my friend ended up getting annoyed just being with him. I love romance a lot in movies and in anime but I don't think I would like it to happen in real life. but of course anime influence me a lot, so I dunno if I have tsundere behaviour in relationships and I doubt it would actually help and usually the shoujo heroine is just too naive lol. (and I will never want to behave like a harem character..) but if I see a strong independent woman in anime I feel inspired by her and I think most guys prefer cute girls so I don't think anime is helping me haha.

I've known guys to do that too, so much that they look fake. It's okay to show imperfections and it's better to be yourself then act like something your not.... or just make the times you act heroic times where you can use it best (against roaches, if a guy is hitting on your woman, etc).
I really don't like when I see the "naive" heroine irl. I use to be naive as a child, but when I see grown woman do the whole "damsel in distress" to get men to help her out 24/7, I kinda get annoyed because I can't do things like that. I want to do it myself and make it work, unless I am totally unable to and then get a friend to help lol. A lot of guys go for that type initally, but they usually don't stay with them for too long (usually too needy). A person who can stand on her own, but is able to lean on their partner for support every once and a while seems to be a good mix (^^)

Haha IKR? gentlemen and cheesiness can be sweet and cute and charming from time to time but doing it all the time can make me feel quite uncomfortable also if they later tell you it was to impress you and it was all fake. Then I prefer a guy who is a douchebag but learn to become gentleman lol Also because I'm super tomboy IRL that I from time to time feel like they are trying too hard.
I totally agree on this! I'm super naive though but I'm not the cute naive who is helpless. Rather I'm super stubborn and don't get hints unless you tell it to me bluntly to my face. Also I prefer to do things by myself. I have a few cutie helpless friends and some of them are real where I'm being all protective around them but those who fake it to make guys like them are the worst. It works but damn it annoys me to see them play stupid and innocent when I know that they are worth so much more. But I also have the feeling that is how ideal girls are portrayed in movies and fantasy!

Oh dude I've been told I was clueless as fuck as well BY my girlfriend when she was trying to start dating me. She was kinda sending signals but I wasnt totally gettin them lol
BUT! I've gotten better and I can actually READ signals now, but yeah, I am also a natural gentleman I've been told and I'm kinda easy to fall for, but if I'm not completely interested Im clueless as hell :P

Well it definitely reinforced our bond when we realized our anime interests were exactly identical. However, the problem with near-identical interests is that we've both seen pretty much every single anime we would recommend to each other. We've tried out some new animes together, for example we recently finished Blue Exorcist, and I definitely agree it has strengthened our relationship.
There's just something nice about sitting down to dinner together and watching an anime together and experiencing that together. Side-note we also downed all of American Dad, Family Guy, South Park, Metalocalypse, Futurama, etc together too. We watch so much stuff together it's ridiculous, guuhh I need a new anime for us to watch @_@

Damn... well, what about season 2?
Side note, thank you for knowing Mushishi. It really is amazing, and it's good to know that if I cosplay Ginko, people here will know who I am.

Yeah we've watched all of it. I really like that anime actually.
But yeah we finished watching Blue Exorcist, Shiki, The Devil is a Part Timer, Welcome to the NHK, and some others. We tried to watch Shigurui Death Frenzy but he wasn't too keen on the realistic gore LOL, I'm more into the gore/sex stuff .
