I made this post, as you can guess, to say goodbye to my beloved Fakku.
I've used Fakku as my main hentai site for almost 6 years now, I've been here a long time, but this is my first time starting a forum topic. I love the idea of Fakku, I love the community of people who are here. But with the recent derision for the site to stop producing free content, I can't feel right using it any more.
When Fakku announced that they would be publishing books I was ecstatic, I could finally own hard copies of some really good original hentai. I currently own almost all of the books. even when subscriptions came out I was excited, yeah it was kinda expensive but they were putting out almost twice as much stiff, and they still had all the free translations and dojins.
But I'm sure many will agree with me that the way Fakku is forcing people into subscriptions is stupid.
So long space pervert.

Just fyi, there will be free content eventually. The library has to be built up before it's implemented. There was talk of either rotating chapters daily/monthly or rotating books, but nothing is 100% yet.
Removing illegal content was the only way to move further in the process of working with other artists and publishers.

No one is forcing anyone into anything if this didn't happen legal issues would have been the result. You cannot have pirated content along with legal content, that will never happen so it's awesome you enjoy the books, but it is necessary for fakku to progress in this fashion.
Also what Tsujoi said, there will be free content eventually just takes time since all of this just started this year. Patience is the key word in all this.

It's just, It feels kinda douchey, for want of a better word, on Fakku's part to stop providing "illegal scanslations," which it was basically built on. In favor of paid content, and fairly expensive content at that.
I understand that Fakku wants to move towards a more professional style of buisness, and it has produced some great stuff! I would kill a man to get one of those skateboards. But i still don't like the way there are going about it.

I mean, you could argue that it was "douchey" of them to build a site that profited off hosting translated and raws of content they didn't pay for. (not that I agree)
Fakku is more or less a response to that niche market that had a huge service problem and had to rely on small fan groups who translated and scanlated several works.(not that they'll stop existing anytime soon) As most people see it, those artist and publishers are getting paid and dipping their toes into the English speaking market, which could potentially benefit everyone.

They're asking the same amount Japan would ask for their books and to be honest it's really not that expensive given the quality of what they offer. I have payed anywhere from 10-14 dollars for manga books twice as small and half the quality if not more. Eventually these books can be found on Amazon for a reduced price if you look, but again for what is offered the price is acceptable.
How do you think this should have been handled? The goal of this site was to bring content to people who previously could not access it by any other means. Now that they can provide the content in proper way, it shouldn't come to a surprise that this would mean you'd have to compensate for such a thing, that's just how it is. Nothing is free and what was free was obtained through stealing. May not have been the right way, but it served its purpose, now the real work can begin where fans of the material can actually enjoy their content and give back to the artist that create this work and the people willing to work hard to make this all possible. Not sure what you have a problem with other then there is no more free content. Just use other sites for that like most of us already do and support the cool merch when/if you can. I know I buy a couple of books every few months because I love the content so much. Even cut out buying take-out and other things. Just my personal thoughts though.

I totally agree with you man, I've been using this site for four years now, and after a fairly long hiatus due to military reasons I return to find the website rising from the grave, grubby hands outstretched reaching for my pocketbook.
To say that you want to "Provide content the proper way" after years of doing it illegally is just plain asinine, and quite frankly hypocritical. A drug dealer who wants to stop dealing drugs on the street and instead gets a job dispensing drugs as a pharmacist is still a criminal.
I feel that the creators of Fakku should have created a new website where Pay to Play for higher quality content is the name of the game, and kept Fakku as it was. Going 'legit' with the website and removing content in order to make money is 'douchey' as the OP suggested. Fakku went from being Robin Hood to Prince John in the span of six months. I guess the prospect of big money can really change who you are. However, I believe that creating a new website and diverting membership that wanted to pay while maintaining the scanillations (whatever they're called) and the 'un-licensed' content on this website would have been the proper course of action. Get more money without alienating your long-time membership.

What Jacob is doing is actually helping out the artists and it's giving you real uncensored books, unlike those fan-uncensored that people try to do. If you don't want to pay money for it then don't, that just means you won't get it.
At some point people gotta realize that Fakku isn't free anymore, nor are you entitled to get anything that goes on Fakku for free, it's someones art that they put a lot of hard work into. If you want free, go to Ex.
