I can read and write English on a highly proficient level.
I can speak Bengali on a colloquial level, and can barely read and write, since my only literacy training was done by me with a weekend's input from my parents.
I can understand Hindi on basic level, can't effectively speak it and can no longer read or write it.
Question: Is Bahasa Indonesia a dialect of Malay, or are the two not mutually intelligible?

but both language became two different languages.
it's like comparing American English and British English.
Indonesian is a straight language, while Malaysian gives you an accent.

English; I forgotten my Latin training from reading Caesar's Gallic Wars and a few other novels also able to say the Catholic service in Latin. No, I was not trained to be a priest but to be an altar person, Latin was forced on us. Some churches in my area still had the Mass in Latin.

Im American. I took honors English classes all of my life, so I obviously have a mastery of the English language.
Like many Americans, I can speak basic Spanish.
Im adequate in Japanese, and I would consider this my best language other than English.
I also know very basic French, Italian, and German.
I have a mastery of Latin as well, but I dont consider this to be a useful language. Therefore, I dont normally count it...

English is my native language, and as such, I'd like to think that I have "mastered" it...but in reality I probably don't understand 75% of the rules XD
I've taken five years of French, and I plan on going on to be a translator or a liaison for either the gov't or a big company.
I've completed a semester and a quarter of Russian which kicks my ass...too many consonant clusters. They are my own persona KHAN!
other than that, I have a German, Italian and French For Dummies. Which actually helps. not sure what that says about me, however.

Two, English and Spanish. I learned both of them at the same time. I can't write very well in Spanish though. Takes me a while to write a simple sentence because I have no idea what the rules are and how to spell most words.
I also know some basic French thanks to primary school. I drop the class later in high school.

English only, I know 20-50 words in 5 other languages but that doesn't count because well it's only 20-50 words. I took 2 years of Janpanese but it was hella hard and I stoped and I've forgoten most of what I know, but I want to give it another shot and try to learn it again.

2, Swedish and English. I have also recently found out that my knowledge in Japanese allows mo to at least follow a simple conversation somewhat, although I can neither read, write or speak it.

German, English, Japanese in that order.
Would be able to follow conversations/read and understand texts in Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian.
Took Latin classes once too, but I don't know that much anymore.
