I found out that my boyfriend looks at this website, help?

So I'm completely new to this site because I recently found out through his friend that he is into animation porn. I want to support him, but I'm honestly thinking that this is sort of weird. If you guys or gals could tell me why this stuff is so important to you, maybe I can understand it better. We've been dating since high school for about 3 years now and I have never guessed he would be into this stuff. We have a very healthy relationship, both physical and emotional but this part of him that he has been hiding has hurt me.
In the end, I just want to understand him better so we can be a stronger couple.
Thanks for reading, and if you could tell me some reasoning on why you all are into this, that'll be great.

People have different tastes, that's all. Some people watch porn, some don't, those who do may be into a certain genre (bdsm, brunettes, anal, yadda, yadda) and some are simply into hentai.
Because people can act weird about one liking animated porn , some tend to hide the fact that they're into it. As if liking porn wasn't weird in itself.
Anyway, I guess I like it because it caters to some things I would never see in real life or any porn movies (e.g sex on a train). Also I like comparing art styles and making fun of animation studios that make really shit work.
I don't think you should be worried about your boyfriend, he was probably just worried about your reaction regarding his taste in erotic material.

I'm gonna give some general info to help potentially clarify your concerns, but take it with a grain of salt. It will be in all honesty better to talk to your boyfriend directly about this and be open with one another.
1) why do some of us like hentai?
A: various reasons usually relating to an interest in comics and animation, interest in Japanese culture and artwork, enjoying what certain content has to portray, horny and tired of regular porn (I know I don't like it because it's cheesy). There is a variety of material out there to read that ranges from soft core to hard core so it's not like we all read crazy stuff.
2) does liking hentai mean that we wish to perform all the acts that we read?
A: no. There are all different types of people who read this material and even if you read some of the more hard core material, that doesn't mean that you need/want to do it. I know I read some of the more hard core material myself, but that doesn't mean I want my boyfriend to rein-act all of it. I just enjoy reading things out of curiosity and that's pretty much the end of it.
3) why do we have such a fear over people finding out about our interest?
A: basically we don't want to be misunderstood for our interest in hentai. You saying it's weird reinforces the notion that not everyone can accept what we like. I've had ex boyfriends and some old friends of mine call me weird for liking hentai. I use to tell them that they have hobbies that I found odd as well so it isn't right for them to judge me on mine. Long story short, we can't help but like some of the things we like and like any human being we become insecure when people judge us on such things.
I wouldn't get too upset with your boyfriend for not telling you about this. A lot of us are afraid to talk about our interests to the person we love most in fear that we will loose them. I know me opening up about hentai to my boyfriend was a little nerve wracking for me at the time, especially since I've had shitty experiences with opening up about it in the past as I stated lol.
Summary:
Basically you need to talk to your boyfriend about this and get his own personal perspective on everything. It's not wrong of you to find it weird, but don't let your personal feelings get in the way of how you feel about your partner. If you care for him then this is just another step in really getting to know one another. I've been with my boyfriend for a little over 2 years and I'm still learning a lot about him. I hope that you don't think too poorly of those who enjoy this type of material. We are a bit odd and we know that some people don't understand our hobby, but again the same can be said for most of the things other people enjoy.

A lot of people who aren't into anime/hentai would think people who like this stuff are weird or perverted. Maybe your bf thought you would think the same way and decided not to tell you. I think the most effective way to try to understand is if you ask him why he likes hentai and why he didn't tell you.
Personally, the reason I like hentai is because sometimes it is more than just masturbation material. Hentai is art. Authors put their emotions on paper and create all kinds of stories that appeal to a wide variety of tastes and preferences. Hentai, just like books, can make readers feel the emotions of the characters in the stories and goes even further by illustrating them on the pages. Ordinary porn doesn't do that, there are no real emotions in the rehearsed sex scenes that actors perform in front of a camera. Since porn is basically actors and actresses "acting" out sexual scenes, there are no emotions for the viewers to feel from watching it.

I don't recommend bringing it up, only because you don't like it and find it weird. It may seem like it'll be a harmless discussion but I'm betting he isn't gonna like hearing "why do you like this?" Because that in anyway sounds demeaning and condescending. If him liking it doesn't bother you than I say let it be a moot point, if it does than I still don't think you should mention it because what he likes is a part of who he as a person is and no one has the right to try to change him.
If you do infact start to enjoy than bring it to his attention and maybe you'll get a little more frisky (which is always good for a relationship).

He likely didn't tell you about his interest in Hentai because he probably thought you'd find it weird - which you do. It's hard for someone to admit they like Hentai because of the stigma attached to it, especially if they don't know anyone else in their day to day life who likes it.
Have you ever watched an anime or TV show and just thought that the two characters constantly flirting and build up sexual tension should just fuck each other senseless, only for it not to go anywhere? Well, Hentai answers all your prayers by giving you a canon that never happened.
Have you ever wanted to indulge yourself in your deepest desires and do whatever the fuck you wanted to a person sexually with no negative repurcussions? Happens in Hentai.
I can understand possibly why you think Hentai is weird;
Remember that it's just another form of porn and there's an unwritten rule among Hentai-goers to remember the difference between Fiction and Reality, because all sorts of retardation comes about when someone forgets.
To me, Hentai is (in addition to being porn) a form of escapism; I like dipping into the fantasy world from time to time, and in fantasy everything goes - sex gets intense, and it's very easy to immerse yourself in the moment and get off on it. As Sprite said, the author can get pretty creative. You won't get the same results if that creativity was played out by real people.

I can understand possibly why you think Hentai is weird;
- The first thing most ever hear about Hentai is Tentacle rape. Tentacle rape is actually not as common as you might think. In fact, normal sex between two people is among the most common on this site.
- The fact that cartoons are often associated with entertaining children. But cartoons do exist for adult entertainment, which isn't necessarily porn. Remember Beavis and Butthead? What about Family guy? Prime examples.
- And the scenarios in Hentai where children get fucked which most people who don't have a keen interest in Hentai will condemn. A common arguement to defend it is that the characters portrayed aren't real and scenarios involving said children would never happen in the first place if it was in reality. And anyone with a normal functioning brain would never do such a thing IRL.

Well, it's porn for one. Also, it's an escape from reality. Seeing stuff that don't usually happen in life is refreshing. Anyone that watches anime or reads manga has to have some sort of interest in hentai. It's just part of our hobby and if we were to come out and say we like watching/reading hentai, we'd be judged as odd or be made fun of for watching "Cartoon Porn".
Anyways, it's just one of our hobbies.

The above line sums things up perfectly.
Be careful with the below line because there are likely TONS of people who like anime/manga but DONT look at hentai.

Are you hurt by the fact that he has been looking at porn at all, that he has been looking at this particular kind of porn, or that he didn't tell you that this is the sort of thing he's into?

Don't get hurt, at least he's not doing drugs or whatsoever. The only thing you have to do right now is, like what you've said, support him. Aaaaand maybe this would also be one of the factors that would bring you guys closer together. Well, I bid you and yer boyfriend luck and eternal love :D

To me not sure why you are hurt? Unless you told him every little secret is it wrong for him to keep something from you?
I think if you really want to understand it you shouldn't be asking us why we like it, but ask him why he likes it. A relationship of 3 years you should have built up enough trust to talk about certain aspects in each other personal lives.

I hope you do not judge your boyfriend to harshly. It was a long while before I told my boyfriend I liked hentai. Maybe about a year. I feel porn and sexual interests are a extremely sensitive topic that can easily hurt the feelings of someone if another expresses disgust. I know I have friends that like anime and Japan but think anime porn is gross. I personaly like it more then real porn because it's artistic, there are not bad corny actors, and its much cuter. Sometimes it's actually funny.

Yay Blueteacup! i got into it because it is funny lots of the time and super hot all at the same time. Maybe i am weird cause i like it and i kinda like regular porn to and i kno girls are not supposed to like that stuff. One thing that's cool is none of the people are real, so you can't look at them and think OMG how did they end up with that happening to them.
You should try hard, like really try, to find some that you like so maybe you'll understand your bf more. If i had a bf then we'd be reading it all the time and it'd be pretty awesome.
I just thought about something else. Do you love shoes? Like over the top love? Or some other thing? If he doesn't love it does that make you really weird?
Hugs i hope you guys stay together in love for a 100 years!

Quite a few women enjoy various kinds of porn. We're just more secretive about it, unless were around other girlfriends or the right guy friends (ones that think it's cool, but don't give a shit and are awesome friends). Less girls enjoy hentai, but a lot of women enjoy erotic fanfics, HBO sex scenes, and smut novels. An active imagination also works great.

i guess so its just that there are people like this girl who started the convo. She thinks this is all weird and i kno other girls who get all 'ewww!' when they saw something on my laptop. It's pretty super cool there are cool girls like u so i don't feel like a freak.

I'm into hentai because it turns me on when I read it while normal porn doesn't. Maybe I'm just "weird" and "a special case". Also since I have some special fetishes which can only be found in hentai I read it for that as well. Some of the things I like in sex is pretty unrealistic or uncommon too so to not hurt anybody or do illegal things reading about your desire can somehow be satisfying.
While normal porn is only about the sex, hentai can be way deeper and actually have a plot, story and character development. There is both softcore and hardcore hentai. Personally I like the softcore ones, which can be a normal story with mature elements. At some point in life you get tired of the innocent stories ending with the couple just kissing or just hugging.
I don't think you should feel hurt about the fact that your BF hide that he is reading hentai. Nor do I think you should be worried. If he reads normal comics or just like animation in general then I believe it is normal to want (sometimes) more realistic endings for the couple. Like in movies most romance stories show the couple have sex and in Animation those scenes just don't exist. It is just a satisfaction of a whole story. Well now I don't know what kind he reads but if it is the hardcore ones, then maybe he just want his imagination to run wild from time to time, but only in fictive fantasy. If watching fantasy in real life porn I believe it would be even more weird. Like imagine real life people being raped by monsters.. Keep the fantasy to the fictive characters. Also it is normal that people (mostly guys) like to watch porn, sometimes normal porn just doesn't cut it, often with bad actors or thin plot while hentai can be deeper.
I don't think he wanted to hide it from you, but it is rare to hear your boyfriend randomly say: "Hey I watch a lot of porn, and btw it is this kind of porn". Maybe he didn't want to hide it from you but just didn't know how to say it to you.
1. He could be scared of you thinking it was weird and you judging him
2. He could be worried if you would leave him for having such a "weird" habit
by telling you.
You know not everyone is as acceptable. Also those you believe is your dearest and those who know you the best can still be shocked when learning new things about you they didn't expect.
3. Maybe he just couldn't find the right way or time to say it to you without it coming as a shock.
4. Maybe he didn't thought it was important to tell you since, it would be weird to tell your GF: "Hey I watch porn about XXXX when you aren't around"
If you are very worried or still insecure about how to deal with it you can always talk to him about it. Try to hear his opinion on why he didn't tell you and why he reads it. The best way to understand someone is by communicating with that someone.
I hope my post helped a bit and good luck!

Telling your significant other that you watch porn regularly is never an easy thing to do and I imagine telling them that you enjoy hentai is even more difficult with all the negative connotations that usually surround it. I'm sure he hid it more so because he was afraid of your reaction.
Does it bother you that he's watching porn in general instead of being with you? Or are you only bothered by the fact that it's animated?
As for hentai, it's nothing more than a different form of porn. Being an art and something that somebody created, hentai usually shows actual emotion and has characters that you could become invested in, whereas "normal" porn only depicts two people rehearsing acts in front of a camera, doing whatever they're told to do. Perhaps he enjoys reading hentai based around characters he already has an attachment to from watching anime, wanting to see those relationships develop into something more.
I personally think that if it's bothering you, you should bring it up and talk to him about it. Keeping it all bottled up will just hurt you in the end. Just try to be considerate and don't let it sound like you're implying that it's gross or anything of the sort. Instead of asking why he watches/reads hentai, you should ask him what he enjoys about it.
Perhaps even give hentai a shot yourself and see if you also enjoy it? You never know - you two could have a new hobby to share.

Guys, I don't think OP's coming back anymore. Hasn't been online since... the day after this thread was made.
