Is there a possibility of people being born gay?
Do you believe people are born gay?

Before people come in here thinking that I don't like gay people I want to clarify. I made this topic out of the general curiosity due to something I seen today. I asked myself is it possible that people can be born gay? I used think it wasn't but when I think about it I'm not so sure. I wanted to ask the people of FAKKU what they thought.

No. There is no such thing born gay. I am firm believer that your sexuality is a choice, and the environment and people around you shift and change that decision.

Yes, some people are born gay. If someone were to ask me if i was born straight, then I'd say yes. So it'd be rude to say homosexuals aren't born that way if they think so.

I sort of hate the way this question is worded. I sort of look at it as people are more or less selective depending on various factors. Some of it is innate, some biological, some environmental, chemical, social, etc.
Honestly though I don't think it matters. You can't help but love who and what or for some they don't feel love in the same way as others. I know I find women sexually appealing (aka eye candy), but I don't feel any emotional attachment or sexual excitement from them. Thus I identify as being straight.

I don't think anyone is born a certain way, I think the environment you're raised in and the experiences you have are the most important factors towards your sexuality. I was raised in a household where my parents taught me I could love anyone I wanted so long as I was happy, regardless of gender. I think being taught that helped towards my bi-sexuality since I was never deterred from it. Sure I'm 100% gay now but that was due to experience with men opposed to some biological factor that made me forgo men. That being said of course biological and societal influences can have an equal effect. Some people are just born differently with their sexuality, I wasn't born a set way in my opinion but some people may be. Everyone varies slightly from each-other.
Anyway you are who you are, it doesn't matter how or why people have different preferences with their sexuality be it nature or nurture. So long as they're comfortable in their own skin (metaphorically) then it's all cool in my book.

I believe it's a combination of the personality traits you were born with and the environment you grow up in, with the environment being a major factor in most cases.
It's been shown that identical twins with the same upbringing can have one twin that is gay and another that is not, so it's unlikely to be genetic (i.e there's no such thing as a gay gene).
No doubt you will have wondered whether you were gay or bisexual at some point in your life (especially during your teens), so sexual orientation isn't as black and white as we think; thus being gay isn't as unnatural as religious zealots want you to believe.

Yes. Why would i force myself to be hated and disowned? Im only half gay, but still I fear almost all my life from religious parents and an institutional denial because of my job. If i could stop it i would of years ago.
Not all gay people are born though. There a few who where made by rape and molestation. Maybe some people choose it, but majority has to be born with that instinct. Some you just can tell they gonna be flaming.

I had some really gay experiences with a Japanese friend while in kindergarten.
I don't want to go into full detail but yea.....
I'm not gay/bi tho, I would've known by now. I have never felt love towards a man.
I do seem to be some sort of gay magnet tho, for I often get hit on by gay peeps on PSN.
Sowmtimes I kinda wish I was gay/bi but only so I could say, "bitch, I got options!" to a misbehaving gf.

YOU. YOU ARE ONE OF THE CHOSEN.
BY THE POWERS OF HOMOSEXUALITY, YOU ARE DESTINED TO SUCK THE COCK.
FOR ONLY BY IMBIBING THE SEED OF MAN SHALL YE KNOW THY TRUE SELF.
NOW- GO.
GO FORTH INTO WORLD- AND LET THY ANUS BE WIDE.

Well if you put it that way open up the flood gates! xD
But I choose the last option since I don't really care how or why a person swings for the same team. Just sort of see it as you are who you are and I don't need to know more then that unless you really feel like telling me your life story lol.

I'm gonna say yes. And not because I believe it's true, actually I have no idea if people can really choose their sexuality. I'm not comfortable enough with the thought to start experimenting with men. And I don't really care what the truth is. I'm strictly attracted to women, I always have been and, as far as I know, always will be.
But, I will not refuse to believe that gay people exist. And that's perfectly fine with me. Love is wonderful. If there's love then I have no problem with it unless they start shoving it in my face at which point it doesn't matter what sexuality they have, I don't want any of it. The problem is that not everyone is comfortable with gay people. Gay people (and other non-heterosexual individuals) don't choose to be closeted because they're shy. They're afraid of what might happen if they expose themselves. And one of the worst things is that sometimes their parents don't accept it. There are some parents who simply won't hear it and won't have it. And even worse is the kind who will try to take action on it. Although this probably wouldn't actually matter, I think it's easier to say that sexuality is decided at birth rather than deal with parents who would try to forcefully change their child's sexuality.

It was kind of difficult trying to even ask. Simply because I didn't want to come off as offensive in any manner.

It's cool and no offense taken, it's not an easy question to ask regardless. I know a friend of mine back in highschool use to hate this question because when you do identify as gay you get asked these types of questions more often then not, but it would probably be more annoying then offensive then anything. People who get offended by such a question take it too seriously.
I think the way you asked it was fine because even I can't think of another way to ask it atm lol.

Technicaly im 1/3 gay (Pansexual-Accepts all genders) so yes do belive people are born they just have to choose when and how they embrace it. I found out when i was 15. Liked my bestfriend, we were really close, then i made the connection. I chose to embrace it. Thats were the choice factor comes in. You can accept or not. But deep down, if you think you are look up things. I mean anything from peoples opinions to "other" things. Tis how i embraced. Had a gay freind. He helped me out.

Yeah, that's another point I forgot to make. If sexual orientation is a choice, then why choose to be gay when the cons outweigh the pros? I'm not saying there's a gay gene, but it could be hormonal, like someone I had a conversation with suggested.

I'm sure I have read somewhere that there has been a research claiming that being a homosexual has something to do with the imbalance in genes (I'm not sure, but it has something to do with chromosomes or something biological). In any case, the environment is a huge factor. A person is a combination of his nature and on how he is being nurtured. Nature and Nurture. Basic concepts in social sciences.

I think there's some general confusion as to those who are gay and those who adopt the mannerism which is associated with gaynesfs. It is this "fabulous" culture that is a choice, for one could be gay and not subscribe to said culture or be non-gay and adopt the culture still. There is also the idea that being gay is all about wanting to fuck a guy's butthole (or scissoring if you are a woman), when in reality is really about having romantic feelings for someone of the same sex, and there is no choosing that for that is your nature.
In this day and age being gay does have its perks in certain parts of the world(San Francisco) and in certain industries. So with that said, I wouldn't put it past some people "choosing" to be gay in order to savour those perks.

If we were to assume that homosexuality is genetic, then that wouldn't make any sense to me. There's no evolutionary advantage to being gay. You can't produce offspring, so how would you pass the "gay gene" down from generation to generation?
I can only assume that it's caused by ones environment or experiences, then. Perhaps it's caused by early childhood experiences producing an attraction/aversion to a particular sex. Perhaps one's sexuality is an ongoing balance regulated by the availability of mates in one's environment (the absence/presence of desirable guys/girls in one's life). I'm honestly only guessing at this point. I couldn't possibly understand.

How do you explain homosexual animals then (11% of each species are homosexual)? Animals basically live their lives by instinct rather than rationality like us. They wouldn't just "chose" willingly to mate with the same sex because it would go against their nature.
